BGSU Player draft Hoop version

Post by Globetrotter »

We did a player draft of sorts just for fun of the last 11 years 2000-2011 for football and it seemed pretty successful. I thought I would try it over here. Basically you can take any player from the last 11 years. We won't restrict positions but imagine that you would be playing the other teams and act accordingly. I am not sure how many teams we will go with, let me know if you are interested.

Any rule changes you propose? Limit on teams?

I personally like it at 4 teams like we had for the football....the game is most fun when you're pulling up names of good/great players as opposed to guys that just weren't that good.

Or if you wanted to up it to 5 teams, I'd take us out to say 1995 instead of 2000. Or at least 1997. Expanding it out to include Llarranaga & Daniels would certainly make for some good discussion.

I'm loving the football draft so far, I gotta say, and I think this one could be even more fun. Seriously, the draft is the best idea to hit this forum in a LONG time, IMO. A fun look back at some great BG players...makes me excited for the future.

I like the idea of moving it to 1997 to include Laranaga and Daniels. I started following in 98 when I started school there. For football with so many guys it would be tough to do it but I like that idea here. I also toyed with the idea of a wild card of one pick from any year prior to 1997 but I just don't think it would be fair. The fall off after Big Nate and Komives is just too large IMO.

Even though I didn't particpate, I certainly enjoyed reading it. Definitely a great idea Globetrotter!

Here's my one piece of input. How about doing it by decade? That way you could set this up as something to do over a longer time frame. Like the week of 7/11 do 1950s, then two weeks later do the 1960s, etc building up to the more current players.

That could be interesting, but I know that would be a struggle for me to even think about. I don't really know very many players prior to the '90s.

But I think that is what would also make it more interesting. Drafters might actually have to do a little research and would learn about the history of our sports programs.

I think its a great idea but more effort then I am willing to give because I just dont know many players in those eras. It would certainly bring in some people on the board who saw the 80's and what not and diversify conversation. But there would be alot of "Trust me he was good" picks. Everyone here saw Josh Harris and Keith McLeod. What an era to be a student at BG.

I would love to, because the football one was fun, but I don't even know who the current basketball players are, let alone for the past 10 years.

I would play but I have followed BGSU basketball pretty half ass since 2002.

Edited: I will play if you can't find four people.
