BG was picked to finish last in the MAC East by the Sporting News....and also by Lindy's....again. Year after year after year we are pegged for the bottom. I so hope this is the year we break out, it's been way, way too long. Also, looking at our non-conference schedule, many of the teams we will face have been picked to finish well in their respective conferences.

Has BG's "training camp" even started yet? Is this based solely on the roster and the age of the players? Season's aren't played in pre-season polls. Seasons are played on hardwood floors in brand spanking new arenas that should bring in good, loud crowds! C'mon Falcons! Prove the "experts" wrong!

I honestly cannot fathom the basis for putting us last in the Mac east. We competed well at times last year and return every meaningful player. This team should compete for the division this year. A last place finish here would have me renting the moving vans to take to coach orr's house.

Agreed. With basically the whole team back there's no reason the Falcons won't compete for the East (and MAC) title.

I still don't follow the rose colored glasses by some; i dont't like saying it, but we return almost everyone from a poor team in an incredibly bad league.
I hope jr. is the savior for this club, otherwise another long year in what looks like a really great building.

You are ridiculing an extremely young team last year. Of course I am still concerned about leadership as I am assured no one will step up, we have a solid line-up full of veterans. Especially after that showing in Canada I have some solid hope. Crawford looks stronger than he did last season and seems fully capable of taking control of the team in Joe Jak's stead. Scott Thomas is gonna put up the numbers he consistently has over the past few seasons, I'm hoping Dee Brown will take control of his destiny and work harder to become a more rounded player but behind him is a young and talented Anthony Henderson, Cam Black is healthy and as big as ever, and A'uston Calhoun is going to keep attacking the rim. As long as Calhoun puts a few more assist under his belt I see no reason he can't be a solid contender for MAC player of the year. Our bench is still deep, Kraus will bring the emotion off the bench that everyone loves to see, Craig Sealey is young and extremely promising for this season, and Torian Ogelsby will bring that x-factor off the bench to carry some minutes. I do not know much about the new kids coming in but if Coach Orr mixes up the defenses as I have heard he may, then we can see some strong defense this year. I'm excited to see this team play and I have no concerns that this team will absolutely not finish in the bottom of the league

This team will win 7 games all season, maybe 8.

I guess I just don't understand this line of thinking. They won 14 games last year and were 8-8 in Mac play. They return every worthwhile player from the team and many of the key players were playing their first major minutes last year. It's possible they go backwards...sure...but I have to believe they'll be better as the guys have more experience and the new faces are far more talented than the guys they're replacing.
anything less than a bona fide run at the Mac championship and I will have seen enough of Orr. I believe we've added a lot of talent in his time though and I think this is the year we start to see that.

This seems odd to me. I expect for them to compete for a MAC title for the next 2 seasons atleast. I think Clarke will start at the 2 with Brown off the bench. I think Clark is going to be really really good. Then next year we lose Thomas, Oglesby and Brown....all great pieces but none of our future stars.
We could not lose McElroy and go back 7 games.
What does the rest of the league have and how hard is our schedule?

I guess when you look at this I can see it.
EAST CONF GB OVR
Kent State 12-4 -- 25-12
Miami (OH) 11-5 1 16-17
Akron 9-7 3 23-13
Ohio 9-7 3 19-16
Buffalo 9-8 3.5 20-14
Bowling Green 8-8 4 14-19
Is the West really that much rose then the East. Thats crazy.
In a vacuum i think we will have a good team. I think everyone on the east will be good too so I can see putting us low.
We had the worst record by far last year

Ahhhh... Hoops talk. Break out the jeans and sweatshirts! The East is though, man! But last? No way! 8-8 last year and this is a better team. I worry about the point without Joe JaK - unless Crawford plays every minute of every game.
I'm calling for 10 wins in conference, but that won't get near a MAC East title. Kent and Akron are strong and Charlie Coles is due (wait... is he still alive?).
Two weeks deep in football (and 2-0), but I'm thinking HOOPS!

We are not going to win 7 or 8 games, give me a break. We won't be worse than last year. However, the biggest obstacle in winning the East is that we have almost everyone back, but so does Kent. I think that the key is Black...if he is effective on the inside and draws coverage from the other team's Center, than Calhoun will be much more effective.

Black and depth for our bigs and Clark IMO are the biggest difference makers. I think we clearly have talent at the 1 3 and 4 and with Brown scoring and those guys are going to give atleast what they gave last year. Add in A scorer at the 2 and a healthy Black and we are going to be solid.

I still question Crawford. He was great in spurts last year, but he really needs to up the consistency. And he's just not a great shooter, so we need him doing more to create for others than trying to finish himself.
