We're going to have to score this year to have a chance

No, not in just this Georgia game, every game. I don't care how good of defense we play this year, we could lead the MAC defensively, but if we don't start scoring, it's not going to matter. I get that we're all about defense, and I think we play it well for the most part, but we need to score as well to be a factor. Period.

Who would you suggest will do that against good teams? We have a couple of guys that can score 10 or so, but overall our shooting stinks...........................again!
It seems to me that unless we can run, we won't score much, and are completly incompetent in the half court game most of the time.
Hopefully I'm wrong, and something changes.

We only shot 23-62 (37%) from the field and 6-13 (46%) from the foul line in a 9-point loss where we fouled to make the score even that (cut it to two possessions several times in the last few minutes). We rebounded very well and defended pretty well, but our shooting from the floor and line kept us from getting this one. If we can start to score, this team can make some noise.

We shot 46.2% at the FREE THROW line against Georgia! There are not many junior high school teams that would shoot that low of percentage in a game. WTF

I see what the offense is trying to do, get the ball into the low post 1st and get the defense to adjust to that in order to create other open looks for our wings and guards, BUT I'm not convinced we are doing enough to get the big guys in a good position to receive the ball to score. It is very predictable when we are going to look for Calhoun or Black down low: swing it around the floor and try to throw in an entry pass. There doesn't ever seem to be any screens for the post players to run off of and there seems to be very little passing from post player to post player once the ball is entered.
Why not go with a high post set more often? Throw it in there and look for the cutter low [see what Georgia did on several easy baskets].
On another note, if Sealy is the example for how much work it takes in the off season to improve and give quality minutes, then Calhoun must have spent very little time this off season working on his game, especially his offense. It looks like he just stepped on the floor in October and is trying to figure out how to keep up with the pace of DI ball. Come on A'uston we need you !

What's with Calhoun? He looks like he should be an All-MAC type some days and totally disappears others. I know we could make anybody look like an All-MAC player last year but I really thought he was one of the etter PFs we faced, then he's 1-11 in your first two games.

Calhoun is my favorite player on the team. But I have also noticed that in the first two games, he's looked sort of passive, almost like he's not completely into the game or something. The dude is a monster when he is on his game. I think he more than anyone on our team seems to get feed off his scoring early, and if he's off, he seems to struggle to get it going. Last year in the opener at Howard, I think he was like 1-11 for the game as well. I really hope he can get back into the swing of things in the CBE. I will say I liked his play down in the post in the second half of the Georgia game. Just hope he gets it going offensively too....but that goes for the entire team.

I do have a question re: the men's team.... I thought Henderson was a FIRST TEAM ALL OHIO player. I know they redshirted him last year....but he hasn't hit the floor yet this year...and one of the true frosh got some PT, albeit minimal. Has anyone actually seen this kid play?

I know there was much self-congratulatory back patting here when BG got him over Toledo. Had he stayed home and had Gene Cross as a coach I truly believe Cross would have helped him become a player and a big time scorer.
I'm just not sure how he would have fared at basketball.

And that one true freshman happens to be the coach's son...
But I agree to some extent. In high school, Henderson was a guard who could score. After seeing this team play twice, it certainly seems we are in need of a guard who can score. Seems like Henderson would get a shot to do that.

Calhoun really loves that "get the ball on the left block, drive right across the lane and shot put the semi jump hook" move... doesn't seem to be an open shot for him these days.
For whatever reason, coach Orr seems to be comfortable with a three guard rotation right now. I like Luke Kraus well enough...I just don't know if I want to see that much of him and i really don't like Dee Brown as a back up PG

Wondering if he learned that from Grant's dad. That was his favorite move. Wait--that was his ONLY move. But he was good at it.

The Coach's son also happens to be a former first team all Ohio.

As I stated in another thread, Calhoun did have 11 rebounds in the UGA game, and I believe his low production on offense was a result of Georgia's bigger and more athletic big man. As matchups work more into our favor, we're going to see a lot more out of Calhoun and Black. Not many MAC teams besides Kent and Akron have the assets to match up with those two down low.

Actually, I was referring to one of the guards from McKinley.
