If that is the general sentiment, and judging by the comments it is, of the customer/fan base around Bowling Green then my heart goes out to those whose job it is to sell tickets.
I'd really like to see a metric comparing tickets, parking, and concessions for all MAC schools.

Some good points for the department to consider.
Where do we draw the line on bringing in food? At one time the nice older ladies that sat behind the scorer's tables when I was a student brought plates of cookies and other goodies for the women's team to eat after the game. Maybe we're just too BiG time for that anymore but I thought that was just one more thing about BG that made it seem like a family atmosphere. Maybe nutrition/health of athletes also dictates this no longer happen.
I understand the concessions needs to make money but we need butts in the seats first. If tradition dictates bringing BK in to consume during the game, like we did to football games years ago, will that change when we consistantly sell-out? I just don't know where you draw the line but taking suckers out of purses seems a little extreme.

I do feel bad for the people selling tickets. Not only do they have to go by dumb decisions made above them, they have to try to explain it to angry people without blaming the people who made the dumb decisions in the first place.
If fans buy tickets and cough up FULL PRICE for their children, what's the attraction? Supporting your team is one thing. Supporting your family in this economic climate is another. Suckers out of purses, as if without the suckers they are going to buy concessions, is as easy as taking candy from a baby.
Dollar Day is coming up. We should be sure to buy dollar dogs to prove what a great idea it is.

I think our food policies are completely out of line. You can take food into most professional sports venues, and even those that don't allow outside food/drink aren't going to be pulling candy out of people's purses. That "policy" is absolutely ridiculous and needs to go.
That being said, I've had no issues bringing pop into a few of the games this year, so maybe these people are just getting unlucky?
I don't think we're out of line with stuff like not allowing umbrellas, or looking in purses, etc. That's pretty standard at all sporting venues nowadays.
I think there are mistakes being made on both sides. On the one hand I think the athletic department's "policies" are out of line when compared to what I would deem the industry standard of sporting venues. On the other hand I think BG sports have been run like a poorly attended HS program for so long the fans around here expect the same policies to be in place now.

And I can totally understand the increased court security as well as the new standards for the football postgame field access. It only takes one incident of an altercation between a fan and a player, coach or game official and the same folks would have been making a big stink of why these rules weren't in place before. You need to err on the side of safety for athletes, coaches and game officials.
I think the department needs a public and/or student liason to work with the security and the AD folks to hash out these other minor issues.

I guess I don't go to enough pro venues but at Indians games they check our backpack for food and dangerous items. We can take in some food and drinks, fruit snacks and juice boxes for kids, but they will have you remove bottled water and any other beverages.hammb wrote:You can take food into most professional sports venues, and even those that don't allow outside food/drink aren't going to be pulling candy out of people's purses.

I completely agree with the idea BG has been run like a HS and the fans want free parking, 50 cent popcorn and a $6 ticket or they write letters to the S-T that they've been ripped off.
I think both parties are in the wrong is most accurate.

Wayne's a dick...the security gaurd who confiscated the suckers is a dick.....I think that covers it, no?
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I always try to go through the gate with the best looking girl working it. That way if I'm frisked on a candy search, she can touch my inner thigh.

That was my point. You have to look into the rules ahead of time, but there are options that you are allowed to take in. Like you said they don't usually allow bottled water/pop/beer, but generally juice boxes/capri sun/etc is allowed. They also are pretty lenient on most any food choices...candy, sandwiches, chips, peanuts, etc. I've taken all of it into professional sporting venues without issue. From the sounds of it BG is getting to the point where you have to be worried if you left a tin of Altoids in your purse.
Overall, though, I agree with Flipper. The dude that wrote this letter is about as big of an ass as the dude that is taken suckers from a woman's purse. Neither is right on this issue, IMO.

I just think BG should be on the lenient side of the normal range. I understand it might not be as loose as in years past, but we do need people to have a positive experience.
