Why did BG lose against Akron.

We lost because Harney made a tough shot, plain and simple. If that shot rolls off the rim then we're all on here feeling a lot better about our team and would be saying things like "If we can overcome Crawford's bad nights like this we're going to be very tough to beat when he's on."

More than poor free throw shooting....getting to the line only 9 times is not good.

I heard on the radio something like our opponents have made as many free throws as we have attempted. That's horrible.

I'm with factman, I vote all of the above as well, but since that isn't an option, I went with #4

Bingo. There are soooo many similar discussions to this one and they all act as if it's a zero sum equation. It's possible or even likely that if any of the listed reasons change, then the outcome is different. Except the Dustin thing. I have no idea why people continue to call him out, but whatever.

Are we not driving the hoop or are we just not getting calls? It's easy to say the officiating is bad when your team is losing but is there some bias against BG? Do officials turn a bit of a blind eye when they see the Brown and Orange? I berated the refs performance night in and night out for three seasons at BG. Was I just a fan or are we seeing a trend here?

Personally I think the officiating this year is the best it has been in a long time. Sure there are calls that go against us but nowhere near to years past. The only thing that irritate me is when a ref will make a call in the first half but the exact same foul late in the game is now a no call. Other then that, I feel the officiating have been pretty good this year. Of course Dustin will say BG is getting screwed on every call but that is not the case.

There have been missed calls that have gone both ways in the games I've seen this year. I certainly don't think that we've been on the short end of the stick with regards to missed calls.
Our problem is that we settle for jump shots WAY too often. We don't attack the basket with any consistency, largely because the only person on the roster that has shown the ability to beat somebody off the dribble is Crawford. And with his size they don't foul him much because they know they can swat it without jumping.
Same problem we've had for years. We don't attack the rim and can't get to the free throw line.

Interesting hypothesis, but flawed. Toledo gets all the bad calls from refs. Unless you want to believe my buddy from EMU who swears EMU gets all the bad calls, which is refuted on the WMU boards where they are pretty certain that the refs are clearly biased against the Broncos, although the Akron guys chuckle and then froth at the mouth because THEY know Akron is the team that is always screwed. Miami fans see things a little differently though.....

Poor free throw shooting was the major reason we lost that game.
4 for 9 does not really show you the truth about how many we missed.
How many times did we miss the front-end of a 1-and-1?
X missed a free throw with 12 seconds remaining which would have forced Harney to try a trey instead.
Y missed the front-end of a 1-and-1 with 58.5 seconds remaining
Free throws, Free throws, Free throws........

I remember a couple of years back a pre-season visiting team fan complaining about all the bad calls they were getting. I assured him that we don't like the MAC refs' calls either.
