If they really wanted to know how people felt about the program, there would have been questions about the game experience, the arena AND the program in general, which would allow comments about coaching, recruiting, etc.

Just more ammunition when the Falcon Club folks call wanting more money for anything (men's) basketball related.

If you look at what was asked, they just want to know the demographics of the people that attend and the people that don't. Of the people that don't, they want to know some potential reasons why and how that can be remedied. They didn't ask questions about items that they either cannot change or are unwilling to change.

For example, if you owned a grocery store and you weren't open past 8:00pm, and you were unwilling to stay open past 8:00, you would not ask a question of your town's population like "When do you normally do your grocery shopping," as you would not change your hours anyways. The basketball survey asks what the primary reasons were as to why I did not attend games, and they gave options that highlighted what they felt could be changed (team performance, game days/times, ticket price). They also asked what might encourage me to come (discounted promotional tickets, group outings, give-aways, special events). If you selected that you had attended games, they want to know how many specifically, what type of crowd you represent, what makes you want to come to the game, is coming to the game a planned event or last minute, and then ask you to rate the gameday experience in all aspects (buying tickets and entrance, seats, food, restrooms, atmosphere, and parking). If everybody that responded that they weren't coming to games cited "team performance" as the primary reason for it, the coaches would be put on warning instantly that they needed to win or get out because the poor team performance is hurting ticket sales drastically.

What is wrong with this survey again? Oh yeah, they didn't ask your opinion on recruiting and game management. Let's be honest here, the average person doesn't know squat about recruiting and coaching. That's like asking the bum on the corner why your Fortune 500 company is running in the red.

And none of the answers were mandatory. If you didn't want them to know your age, marital status, children, income, address, etc., you didn't have to give it. For all the complaining that goes on here about the gameday experience, I'd figure people would be thrilled to have an easy (and anonymous, which is at a premium for some) avenue to relay their feelings. Then again, they could give away unlimited ice cream and people would still complain that it isn't chocolate.

Gimme a break...of course they want to find out the income levels and other demographic information about us...they also want to know where we live, what other entertainment $$$ we spend and what facotrs about BG basketball might influence our buying decisions. It makes it easier for them to sell the program to prospective sponsors. I don't think they give a crap one way or the other what we..the fans... think because they've shown little inclination to change anything about the "game day experience" in the past.

They built a new arena with:
-abundant restrooms
-more concessions
-more convienent parking
-more chair seats
-more seats at midcourt (at the expense of the student section)
-a video board
-a sound system (that works when operated correctly)
-better security

All these were concerns back at AA that were addressed.

All these are items that ANY newer arena has. All these things are the "status quo" and i hardly believe that the fans are the reason these things were incorporated with the new arena.

Wow..they built a new arena and included everything a new arena is supposed to have. It's a great building... but....if all you're asking of the department is "don't screw it up", you're not setting your expectations very high.

I'm sure many won't want to hear this but maybe it will be food for thought for many. The athletic department DOES listen to opinions - just likely NOT yours or mine for final decisions. I remember dance team uniforms changed to be more modest, a marketing guy in the department limited on the placement of ads in venues and many other decisions influenced not by frenzied fans but by people in the orange seats at AA that made significant contributions. These surveys guide ideas not final decisions.

The new arena had major input from those types of people (and I thank them heartly for all their contributions to the programs I love) and yet I think we all benefitted. When complaints about security were made there were modifications. I think our input is important but is often trumped as it has always been.

I would suggest that if the athletic department took every suggestion and made changes immediately we would truly see a mess of a department.
