Milford, Ohio, senior Garrett Mayleben said today that he would sign a national letter of intent to join the Bowling Green State University men's basketball team in November.

Mayleben, a 6-8 forward, averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds per game last season for the Eagles, who finished 14-8 overall and 11-5 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference's East Division. Mayleben received honorable mention on the all-league team.

Mayleben is the second high school senior to verbally commit to the Falcons, joining Valley View High School guard Zack Denny.

7.6 points a game. 4.7 rebounds? 6-8 high school player?

We seem to really like unathletic guards and big men with crappy hs stats.

I'm thoroughly unimpressed.

Globe, I think those were his Soph stats. I believe that his junior stats were 9.6/6.5.

Yesterday I read a scouting report from an all-star game on him. The report described him as athletic and very active and mobile. He went after rebounds aggressively. His shortcoming is a lack of upper body strength.

Also, remember that he had a whole bunch of offers from other decent programs.

From other finding, he seems to be an all-around good kid. This kid will be just fine. Far too early to make conclusions.

If we have another schollie, we need to go find a mid-range.

Based on what he and his coach say, he's a 6-9 wing who can put it on the floor.We've needed a wing with some length and he had offers from two of the MAC schools that routinely kick our ass...so I'm going to reserve judgement until I see some film

That will develop with a little bit of collegiate-level strength and conditioning.

If he actually had offers from Akron & KSU, then I'll gladly take him here.

Of course his HS production doesn't really look great, but Henderson had insane HS production in a legit hoops league and has done next to nothing here (of course I still see that talent shining through at times...our coaches just don't know how to use it...)

I hope he comes in and shows us why the top schools in the MAC were recruiting him...lord knows we could use a dynamic wing player.

Keep in mind its a highlight reel of another kid and he was just a sophomore. Doesnt play the wing.

As mentioned, if Akron and Kent (who usually beat us) wanted him, he must be good. Give the kid a shot.

How does a kid that has options commit to Orr? Does he not know that he has no chance of having Orr coach him over his four/five years at BG? Hell, he'll be lucky to even get a year with Orr.

Did he fall in love with the campus, the Stroh, or some coed? Does he think he has a better chance of getting playing time here versus a more successful program? Does he like an acedemic program we have? Did he really like Myles Pizza?

Plus, when we cut Orr lose next spring does that open up his recruitment again?

Sorry to be such a Debbie Downer here but I can't for the life of me envision Orr coming into my living room and selling me and my son on his being the BG coach for the next four years.

Thats why it was so important for him to go last year. This year he has 4 scholarships to blow.
