BG vs Detroit

Well, in typical fashion, BG built a nice 14-point lead at 33-19 with 4:00 to go, then in a flash, let nearly all of it get away (including a turnover with 5 second left that led to a Detroit dunk before the buzzer), as the lead was cut to 4 at halftime at 34-30. BG looked very good for awhile, then looked very bad to close out the half. Sound familiar???

What seems to be the main issue? Sloppiness all around?

Led start to finish (except for one tie I think) and get this.....won! So damn nice to see us close out a game for a change. Black uniforms looked pretty sweet too, especially at home. Crawford with 26 and only BG player in double figures. A win over a very good Detroit team too.

Nice. I would love a player by player scouting report. Sounds like we played pretty well.

As an aside during the game I watched the mist. Crazy depressing movie. I don't suggest it. I have seen it before and not sure why I watched it again.

Nice win over a tourney team last season. Looks like Detroit is still a solid team as long as they have Ray McCallum. He is...good. Really good. Hopefully this is a spark and we continue to play well at home. Cautiously optimistic.

Go Falcons!

BG played pretty well. Some usual what are we doing moments, but MUCH improved from the Lake Erie debacle. We made shots. That was the key. Ray McCollum Jr. will play in the NBA. Ray McCollum Sr. will not coach much longer than his son is in college. The BG fan in me is happy we won, the person who wants to see BG compete for championships fear we have a team good enough to keep the coach around, not good enough to win anything meaningful. Hope I'm wrong. Crawford can flat out play when he gets rolling. He was really impressive to me.

Very good win...very bad crowd. Detroit was favored by 4 1/2 with solid games against St Johns and Miami Florida. Calhoun didn't get enough touches and only had 10 points or so and Holmes didn't get in until the 12 minute mark of both halves and didn't play much at all. When he did play he was blocking shots and rebounding and had a nice pick and roll to the basket for a big time jam but for some reason Cam Black logged almost all the minutes tonight at the center position. Strange minutes for Holmes tonight. Crawford continued his clutch play and willed us to the win tonight.

Any chance we can go real big and play Black-Holmes and Calhoun all at once?

It would work too good for Orr to use. It looks like early on in this season that Holmes will be used like Oglesby was used last year---way too few minutes for the production he gives us. There is no reason for Holmes not to get into the game before th 12 minute media time out. Holmes not playing a lot of minutes is just a poor evaluation of talent and gives the opposition a break for 16 minutes per game. The minutes, in my opinion, should be reversed between Black and Holmes.

Whew. I thought we would have a night where some aspect of L. Orr's coaching went uncriticized.

FWIW, I enjoyed watching Oglesby's dunks as much as anyone. But the guy was a forward trying his best to play center.

Holmes is a center...Oglesby was a foward that's the difference

Black has been playing well. I know he doesn't generate the numbers, but he is logging minutes and you can see him impacting shots on the inside.

Black is a pretty good interior defender when he plays under control. I don't have a problem with working Holmes into the rotation slowly if Black is healthy.

Good win...

Orr has repeatedly let talent rot on the bench. That is what is so frustrating about following this program.

I noticed that Erger logged more minutes than Sealey. Sealey's lack of PT so far has me wondering if he's in some sort of trouble.
