Great Dakich quote in today's Blade

"(This team) has the leadership," Dakich said. "It has guys who are trying every day. It doesn't have a guy that you sit around worrying about his effort or his commitment to the rest of the guys.

"When you have that, you have a chance."

My question is: Weren't these same guys who are leaders now also on the team last year and if so why weren't they showing leadership qualities last year? Where is it written that in order to be a leader, you have to be a senior? A true leader doesn't abdicate responsibility to someone who is just one year older and not wiser. I don't believe DD is talking about Robinson, Vandermeer, or Soler.

Re-read that quote Fred... it never says they weren't leaders last year, I think Reimold and probably Josh were most definitely leaders last year!!

The part that jumped out to me was his statement that "(the team) has guys who are trying every day. It doesn't have a guy that you sit around worrying about his effort or his commitment to the rest of the guys."

You're only as strong as your weakest link....

I still believe that losing Lewis made us a better "team." We lost talent but probably came together more as a team. As the saying goes "Everyone achieves more when nobody cares who gets the credit."

Yeah, its hard to argue. The team, without Netter and Lewis (both of whom I think were covered in Dakich's statement) is better than with them. Beyond simple leadership, there are a couple talent-based reasons, too. First, Wright is an excellent 2, as many of you predicted. The problem was, even given that, you had to worry about the point. But, Floyd is handling that well, which leaves us a stronger team. Josh is really playing well, too.

Funny thing is I worried about the point last year much more than this year. Robinson & Floyd are both natural PGs, and Wright was never going to be no matter how hard we tried to make him into one.

Yep...Wright was out of position at PG and Lewis didn't seem to fit the offense.
