This could get interesting
I bet it would harm us more than it would help us.

And by interesting I mean awful. Combine this with teams being able to potentially pay for play and you will essentially have teams like OSU using teams like BG as minor leagues, letting players go play there, seeing if they are good and then when they are giving them a call and telling them if they want to transfer we have a spot for you. No need to sit out a year, play tomorrow.

You fret over OSU more than Luke Skywalker did re the Death Star.....

This rule would create an incentive for programs to de-emphasize academics (...moreso).

Actually, Luke fretted over Darth Vader more than the Death Star. Han and Leah fretted over the Death Star. Chewie fretted over his shampoo and conditioner that couldn't mend split ends.Flipper wrote:You fret over OSU more than Luke Skywalker did re the Death Star.....

Imagine that with every good player we have.Rollo83 wrote:Ron Lewis anyone?Globetrotter wrote:...you will essentially have teams like OSU using teams like BG as minor leagues, letting players go play there, seeing if they are good and then when they are giving them a call and telling them if they want to transfer we have a spot for you.
I am trying to think of a positive for this. Maybe we get some transfers from teams like Nate Miller or Walter Offutt. Can't get minutes so they move to a place they can.
I think the net effect would be negative for us though.

It's a trap!!!
I agree that this is a stupid idea that will help the marquee programs at the expense of the "mid majors". The impact could be even more profound in football. MAC schools that recruit Florida well could become JUCO's for Florida and Florida State.

Guys, I'm far from convinced that this would always work against mid majors. I'd expect that kids would readily for more playing time if they are disillusioned and riding the bench at a major.

That's a good point....it would potentially be very damaging to FCS football programs who have used the fact that yo can move down a level without sitting out to draw FBS transfers

you would essentially take the all Mac freshman team and put them on teams from larger conferences. it would hurt the Mac drastically. Plus what coach wants to coach in that environment?BleedOrange wrote:Guys, I'm far from convinced that this would always work against mid majors. One that wants to work his way up to the big time - as is the case most of the time now. The difference will be if he recruits and develops a couple of players at a mid-major not only can he take his talents but the talents of his current team with him to the new program. That will be put a new spin on the hiring process if this conspiracy theory plays out as ugly as I suspect it could.Globetrotter wrote:you would essentially take the all Mac freshman team and put them on teams from larger conferences. it would hurt the Mac drastically. Shouldn't the NCAA encourage these STUDENT-athletes to pick the school that meets their academic needs while having the opportunity to continue their athletic pursuits rather than looking for new ways to drain the most economic benefit from each athlete for coaches, schools and possibly the NCAA itself? Legislation like this seems financially driven to me.
