The worst part is, we're years away from competing again

Orr and his staff has buried this program so far into the ground, that whoever takes it over next has a MAJOR rebuilding job to do. Look at what we have, and what we're even going to lose from a team doing this poorly. Guys, we're talking several years before we even "could" be a contender in the MAC again. This will not be a quick fix with a fresh face leading the way. He's going to need time and talent. To think we paid Orr over a million dollars to do this over the last eight years. Hell, I could have done the same thing for much less money.

Basketball's different. You can come in and turn things around pretty quickly with a good recruiting class and some transfers. Winning fixes all problems. If we get the right coach, I think we can be competitive again pretty soon. I am not bullish on the future...of course unless we get another bad hire at head coach.

Not disagreeing that it won't take as long as say, football, but you can put any coach in the country in here next here and they aren't going to win. We're two or three years away from having a heartbeat again.

I Think it could be sooner than people think. Given he stays, Chauncey Orr has actually turned into a pretty good player. He has quietly put up at least 14 points in the last 3 of 4 games against some top MAC opponents. The Sophomore class actually has some real good talent with him, Holmes and Henderson. By the time they are seniors, it could be a decent year. Denny looks to be an extremely good knock down shooter as he leads the state in scoring. If Tisdale develops over his freshman year and we get a decent class in 2014, that would actually be a pretty good team. Give us an energized coach and who knows.
I know its all wishful thinking, but I could see it happening. Might as well hold onto some positive thinking. It sure seems impossible right now.

This roster stinks. 4 seniors, 2 of which took minutes away from younger players as they both flat out stunk. We have a bulk of slow stiff big men, who can't score. And worst of all, no point guard. Orr has no idea how to build a roster, as he has never been at a program long enough to do it. Next years team with Orr as coach will be the worst team in 30+ years.

I suspect next yeaar's team will be better than this IF you find a point guard. Crawford is so domineering and makes such bad decisions no one gets a chance or has a reason to perform in other than a support role. Orr's chief failing is allowing him to do that and in not developing another PG. A new coach and a pas first PG can turn the program into a winning one quickly. Not sure Orr can do it even with talent. Hope he stays,.but your AD is very savy and will cut the strings if he can.

Orr's biggest issue is recruiting stiff after stiff, then playing those stiffs.

At least on film...the 2 minutes or so of video we've been able to see...JD Tisdale looks like a pass first PG. He carries his dribble a bit high...but he seems to understand the position. If Denny can shoot like his HS numbers say he can...add them to Henderson and Orr and we might have a decent backcourt next year. I expect nothing from Clarke. Can Holmes, Black, Orr, Parker, Sealy, Gomez and Mayleben give us enough up front?
If Orr gets canned (I think it's unlikely) does Chauncey leave?

Why even follow this program is Orr doesn't get fired. We would be winning in spite of him.

While Chauncey may have shown signs of improvement, it would be disappointing if a new coach couldn't go find a better player.
Right, Globe, there is no reason to spend money going to these games and spending time even thinking about this team next year of Orr's here. The program is flat-lining. I don't know how Orr doesn't get canned after next year, but if he doesn't, I won't even bother checking box scores or recruiting.

I had no idea there was even a game last night. I was watching Savage Family Diggers. And that show is super dumb. I was literally looking for things to do and it never once occurred to me that watching BG basketball would be one of those things.

Sorry to reply to myself. But the reality is there is no way I can imagine us being any good next year if Orr is the coach. The lack of an offense, the absurd substitutions and the lack of player development assure that. In terms of talent I don't think we are that far away from a middle of the road team in the MAC, or at the very least a team that is fun to watch in the MAC. Even if we just had a trio of bigmen like Holmes, Sealy and Black playing the 4 and 5 and let Denney fire up 30 shots a night it would be a fun team to root for atleast. I have no idea where pieces like Henderson-Orr-Clarke-Parker-Tisdale end up but all of them can play to some degree (no idea on Parker or really on Tisdale i guess), and in that I mean that I expect that another coach would get more out of them. I don't expect anything from Gomez or Mayleben next year. We have 2 more roster spots (probably 3 if Orr leaves, I would assume his son leaves). Get a new coach. Get a Juco point and a Juco 3 and that's at the very least a fun roster to watch. Something that might create a buzz. A kid that can shoot from anywhere and the best shot blocker in BG history. People would watch that over this.
1 Juco point-Tisdale
2 Denney-Henderson-Clarke
3 Juco 3-Orr-Parker
4 Holmes-Sealey-Mayleben
5 Black-Gomez

Globe, like you, a big part of my fun in following basketball is watching players and teams develop.
Under this program, guys like Clarke, Henderson, and Sealey don't develop. Kraus and Erger haven't either. Crawford's decision making is as bad as ever. Most damning: Cam Black. He's no better than he was as a freshman.
The players don't get better over the course of seasons or their careers. There's no reason to think this team is going to get any better this year.
I've never had this sense of futility about BG basketball until recently.

So this Saturday, do we want Coach Orr to see his shadow. Seeing his shadow means 6 more weeks of basketball. No shadow means an early Spring cleaning

The sooner we lose in the MAC tourney, the sooner Orr can be fired and the new coach selection process can begin. Also, hopefully the new coach will have time to recruit for the spring signing period in April.
