Why hasn't Orr been fired yet?

Wake up Greg Christopher, it's time to fire your coach like you should have last year.....

I was thinking if its a money issue, can we do something to raise some of that money. Then I realized I am not giving money to fire a man so that's kind of absurd. But BG hasn't gotten a dime out of my pocket for a year or 2. Not one. My dad and I went to a game last year but nothing this year. I went to one Football game this year and my ticket was free and it happened to be in Columbus. BG with a new coach would get some of my money next year because I would be sure to come and watch a game or 2.

My fear is that GC is planning to offer us cake.

Where the donors? I don't mean the people that give, $100 or even $1,000. I'm talking about the ones who go on the golf trips to Florida and write checks, the ones that give $9,000 to the Falcon club every year. They are the ones who have the power to get rid of this guy. And it's not even paying for the buy out, I'm just talking about putting pressure on the AD. I know BG has those kind of donors, we see huge donations seemingly every year.
I don't know what average attendance was this year, I'm going to guess right around 1,700. If BG put a halfway decent team on the floor and drew 1,000 more people at $14 a ticket. You're looking at $100,000+ in ticket revenue, plus concessions, parking, and merchandise. I just don't get the reluctance to pull the trigger.

It frankly makes no sense. Why have a basketball team? Will we be asking the seniors to leave their jerseys and shoes from this year for the newcomers next year to save money. Are we going to not buy any new basketballs for 2013? If there is a problem with a rim are we just going to tell teams to check it at the top and we can't go full court? This is how the system works. You don't get dead years for recruiting. We are in the absolutely enviable situation where he happens to be leaving but there are 2 scholarships available for next year (if not three).Falcon137 wrote:Where the donors? Plus, how much more of an attendance drop-off will we see next year if Orr remains? NIU and EMU attendance is regularly under 1,000, which I would think is a very severe embarrassment to those programs. What do we have that those schools don't have? There's no reason to think attendance wouldn't decline next year without a major change.

It's 11:15 Greg, time to make a statement. Your hire of a basketball coach was AWFUL. Suck up your pride, and make the move sooner than later.
Re: It's 6:30 am.....
I wouldn't call the hire awful. Remember he was a former Big East coach of the year who also played in the NBA. Can't ask for a much better "hire." Unfortunately, he just didn't pan out and a change appears inevitable.
LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!
Re: It's 6:30 am.....
Well he is the worst basketball coach I've seen at BGSU in the years I've been watching. His teams were the least enjoyable of all the teams I've watched. He has 1 of 6 winning seasons. He is about to be fired for a 2nd time in 2 jobs. Ok, if Gene Cross is awful, then Louis Orr is not good.

Call me devil's advocate but I think Orr sticks around next year to finish out his contract just to troll us all. The hockey program had the same problem with Paluch and he hung around too long, I can see the same thing happening here.

You make a very fair point. Many of us were excited by the announcement of Orr's hiring.Matty B wrote:I wouldn't call the hire awful. The basketball product of Dakich's second term was every bit as bad as Orr's.guest44 wrote:Well he is the worst basketball coach I've seen at BGSU in the years I've been watching. Honestly, I miss the Weinart days a little. He consistently brought in the best talent that I've seen at BGSU.

Re: It's 6:30 am.....
I would say the talent of late Dakich teams were worse. I thought those teams played really hard, and even in frustration I could watch it. This is just disorganized with no attention to detail. Orr can't get a consistent performance from media timeout to media timeout, let alone game to game. He places way too much value on size, and not nearly enough on leadership. He hasn't recruited a leader in 6 years.
