Billy Taylor out at Ball State

It didn't take long after the season ended. He had one year left on his contract and had a record of 84-99. This probably would have happened last year had the Cardinals wanted to stomach the money.

Great guy, but struggled to get the wins.

Orr is in a pretty similar situation with the Falcons. Same time frame and almost identical record.

Or (pardon the pun) Jeff Boals at OSU. Everyone expected Ohio to nab him last year but they got Jim Christian instead.

Buffalo's AD is in his early 30's and just proved he is wiser than Greg Christopher.

Wow! Good luck Buffalo finding someone better than Reggie Witherspoon. His teams played extremely hard and every coach in the MAC didn't relish playing his teams.

Buffalo came into the MAC and Reggie had them competitive right from the start. I didn't appreciate some of his antics but he could coach. He always seemed to find some talent that was wiling to come to Buffalo...not and easy sell.

I would take him in a heart beat over Orr.

Here's Billy Taylor's firing announcement. Switch out the names of the schools and the individuals involved and it's basically an article we could have read last week, right down to the one-year buyout.

Quotes from their athletic director:

“Billy did so many things right while he was here. He built the team that’s performing in the classroom, that’s performing in the community.

“But in our world, winning and losing and competing for titles is a big piece of what we expect, and particularly where it relates to this basketball program, I just don’t see any reason we can’t be certainly a consistent contender for MAC championships.”

They hired James Whitford (called "Whitfield" by the CBS Sports Network ticker).

Top assistant to Sean Miller at Arizona. Relentless recruiter with extensive midwest and MAC experience.
