3 Recruits

I am always scared when we recruit guys who don't score alot in HS and guys from really small schools who put up good numbers that might be inflated. For me the most important thing about a guy is explosive athleticism.
Tisdale scares me because he comes from a conference that hasn't produced a D1 guy in 20+ years. Mayleben has awful stats and Denny is from an awful conference.
Here is something that makes me believe Tisdale will be legit.

(fwiw he got called for a charge but you can't undercut a guy)

Whats really cool is that he plays the center of their 2-3 defense too.

Denny can really shoot. If nothing else he will stretch the floor. He might need to be a spot up shooter though because he isnt real quick.

I have a picture in my head of Tisdale at pt, Denny popped way out to spread the floor and Tisdale driving and passing off to Sealy and Holmes for dunks all year.
Now watch this one though.

Wow, talk about explosive athleticism. That guy is great. Any chance BG gets him? BTW, were those highlights filmed at EMU?

You know I'm not sure that his conference affiliation is apropos. Tisdale transfered from Flint Northern for his junior and senior year. He had roughly 8 years in a super strong hotbed of basketball--Flint. Northern plays in one of the very best leagues in Michigan - Saginaw Valley Association and although Saginaw High School itself has dominated lately, the league is very strong with plenty of NBA alumni. So Tisdale got his start on the mean streets of Flint. I found an article earlier that said he transferred to better his personal life which I can appreciate it even though Flint is supposedly having a mini-revival economically.

AAU. People need to stop looking at high school stats. AAU is where the best players are matching up with the best players, where they are on teams with similar talent.
I'm not big on Maybleen, but I know he is playing with bad guards in an offense that his him drifting around the perimeter shooting 18 footers for Milford.
Unless it's the GCL where Moeller is playing Elder or a Dayton city league game where Dunbar is playing Thurgood Marshall. Those type of games have D1 players guarding each other / playing against teams with multiple players with D1 talent.
Most high school leagues aren't going to tell you much. Denny is in a league with mostly D3 and D4 schools that have offensive linemen as big guys and guards that are 5'8 and slow. That's why I like the fact he is playing on one of the better AAU teams in the state.

People need to start keeping aau stats maybe?

I can't find the stats, but here is All-Ohio's website.

Scroll down to see some of the names. I never realized Chauncey Orr played for them.

You gotta love Marshall's passion on the court. He dominated that Topeka YMCA team Bill Self mentioned earlier this year.

What was the deal with DeMarkeo? Is he on scholarship and if he was, why didn't he see more minutes? He performed well at the end of whatever game he played and I guess you always are the shooting fool when you get in because it's your only chance. I hope we get to see ALL THE PLAYERS on the court next year.

Wasn't on schollie. Should have played more. Atleast give him a chance. Had seven points in like two minutes

Didn't realize Maybleen plays at Milford... I graduated from there and still know their old coach pretty well. He seemed excited about the kid... so who knows.
Milford hasn't been known as a basketball school since 01, but we've been decent the past few years I guess.

Until Tisdale can make a damn free throw, outside jumper, three pointer, etc., he's not much more than a taller version of what we had in Luke Kraus for us last year. Great, he can dunk, but he's like playing 4 on 5 when we're on offense because he is a zero scoring threat (like Kraus was) and he looks scared to even take a shot anymore. At least he doesn't pump fake the ball like Kraus did all the time being no threat. Tisdale does have better handles than Kraus did and does defends okay, but he needs to learn how to shoot the damn ball. Starting with the simplest of shots, a damn free throw. He is very likely the worst free throw shooting player in the country in substantial minutes played. He’s shooting 25% for crying out loud.
