Rice is so extreme that he comes off more like a cartoon character than a real guy. I'm all for teaching toughness, but geez. How does a coach like that exist for more than a few weeks? Why would any of the players stick around at all?
I could be off, but I have difficulty envisioning even Bobby Knight coming anywhere near this behavior on an everyday everyday basis.
Normally during recruiting, the college players themselves have a large role in communicating with the recruits and selling the program. So, my question is not only how/why kids stay in a program like that, but how do the signees not have an inkling that their future coach is that much of a freak?

To reference another topical college basketball story, our program is kind of like that Louisville player's leg: it's broken and will not be fixed for at least a year.

Gross.
In regards to the Rutgers players....he recruits them and players in all sports get used to respecting a hiearchy. He problem looked for the type of player he could push....or only thru balls at those players. Why he is in coaching if he wants to do those things is beyond me.
