Yet zero NCAA tournament appearances. Where else would this happen?

One more year of not making the tourney...who knows after that? Hopefully Kingston brings in a top notch coach who will get us to the promised land.

Guys, just to clear up any potential delusions, the law of large numbers is NOT at work here. I mean, just because we've waited a half century for an NCAA appearance doesn't mean "we're bound to make some time pretty soon, sheesh". Hell, we may have another 50 years. And why not?

Also, it's worth noting that after we get our next coach, we'll soon see indicators about how much longer we'll continue to wait, and they might not be good. Within a couple years, we'll have an idea about if that coach can deliver or if we're in YET another holding period until that coach's 5-year term is up. Of course, we'll initially want to believe that Orr's successor is finally THEE man. We'll selectively interpret EVERYTHING we see - his resume, every newspaper quote, every signing, every preseason outcome - as a sign of a future championship. We will visualize each new recruit as a potential FOTY or "the type of player MAC schools rarely land these days (Austin Calhoun, anyone?)." We'll rejoice in the new energy and the new style of play. Inevitably, we'll wallow in our usual pit of delusional, wishful thinking. But, by year three at the latest, we'll identify a) some success barrier that that coach will never overcome (just as what we saw with Weinart, Larranaga, Dakich, and Orr), or b) we actually fu**ing make the NCAA tournament. If the case is (a), I guess we can all just drop off until 2019 and check back in again.

And if we do finally have an NCAA tournament, will we have a good showing? and....how long will we have to wait AGAIN? What if we make the tournament in a few years as a 15 seed and get beat by 35? What if we don't make it again for another 30?

And I thought I was the negative, abandon ship one on this board! :-D But I totally agree. What happens if the new guy we hand the reigns to doesn't end up being the guy to get us to the tourney. Or worse off, end up being another loafing, uninspiring Louis Orr. We have to, again, rot out his remaining contract years, and then try to bring someone new in again to rebuild the program. Bottom line is this university SCREWED up big time by not letting Orr go this past year, or even before that. And they have set a precedent and sent a message that no matter how bad you are, we will keep you employed until your contract is up. Message I get and have gotten is they give to sh*ts about the program. And if that's the case, lets just drop sports altogether and focus everything on academics. Here I go getting all pissed off again! I really hate Orr. He's ruined any interest and excitement I had in this program. :drinkers: :vom:

CrazyFan, .....or, could my "negative" post was just my way of encouraging everyone to stop and enjoy the little things that we'll see on a day-to-day basis. A monstrous blocked shot by Holmes, a blinding slash to the hoop by Clarke, a freaky rebound-slam by Sealey? Shrug.

I have learned to enjoy the little things myself. The alcohol service has many times made Louis Orr coached basketball much easier to watch. This year I'm just going to find humor in it. Mainly, humor in the idea that after 6 years of doing the same thing over and over, a staff will seem shocked when it isn't working in year 7. I also can't wait to see if Orr can figure out a way to not start Holmes again this year. Let's get this thing started, so we can get this thing over.

Very VERY hypothetical question here that may have already been asked but I don't feel like reading through the archives: If by some miracle Coach Orr wins 19 games this year and takes the MAC tourney for an NCAA berth, what happens then? Personally I would still like to see us move on and I would thank the Coach for his contributions to the program, but realistically, breaking a gajillion year drought sure wouldn't go unnoticed. Just interested in hearing everyone's purely hypothetical thoughts on this.

The true odds of BG winning the MAC Tournament with this roster would probably be 50+ to 1 at this point. Now since Orr hasn't, nor will ever have a winning record in the non-conference at BG, that would put BG in the play in game. Thus, eventually getting throttled by a 1 seed. So my hypothetical would be that Orr should be gone regardless. However, I've said Orr should have been gone after 30+ point home losses to Akron and Duquesne in the same season several years ago. Good coaches don't let that happen. Unfortunately, Greg Fundraiser disagreed.

Same thing that happens at the end of the year if we do not make the NCAA tournament - the Athletic Director has a decision to make. Renew Coach Orr's contract or start a coaching search and bring in his own coach.

It is not a given that making the tournament will save the coach's job.
It is not a given that coach will be replaced at the end of the year if he does not make the tourney.
It is a given that the Athletic Director has an important decision to make regarding BGSU Men's Basketball either way.

If we would happen to make the NCAA tournament tournament this year, nobody outside a 10-mile radius will give a s**t. The only reason anybody would notice our presence would be due the length of time we've waited. We'd be be a cute media side story leading up to the first round. "Oh, and there's Bowling Green, with their first ever MAC Tournament championship, making the first NCAA tournament appearance since 1968. And the spirits are high down there in Kentucky! Good luck to the Bowling Green Falcons as they face #3 seed Michigan State."

I can assure you that while it will not happen, it is a GUARANTEE that if Coach Orr made the NCAA tournament his contract would be renewed...and if you think otherwise you are either nieve or clueless

Well, I DO think otherwise and I'm NOT naive, clueless, or nieve. What do you have to say to that? Orr need to win the MAC Tourney, save a small village, and have pictures of Knight with farm animals. Orr is basically gone. All the handwriting on the wall says so.

Uh sadly that's probably true for any year we would make the tournament if it were to happen, not just this year

Obviously have a hard time understanding how college athletics work. If he were to make the tourney, regardless of what has happened he'd get an extension. My guess is 2 years, that way they weren't locked in long term, yet would also reward him for making the NCAA tournament for the first time in 5 million years. Let me know when you can find in the past a Low-Mid Major School not give a coach a new contract when they made the tournament.

We don't need to worry about of this happening. We'll be out of the MAC tourney before they go to Quickengundarena or whatever it's called now.
