I have been able to see two games and the other is really a wash because it was against such a bad team. I think we have some talent, start out very good early but then teams adjust and we get tired and left behind. We have more athleticism then in years past and should play atleast 8 players consistently with Denney's and Gomez's roles yet to be determined. My guess is that Mayleben is being redshirted which HammB suggested early but I think is a mistake, not due to his ability (which I have not seen) but due to our lack of depth in the post and propensity to foul. I may also feel this way because I want him to not have 4 years of eligibility left for the new coach.
Individually what I have seen so far.
1. Clarke-strong at taking it to the basket and very athletic and quick. Should be our leading scorer this year. As others have said may be being forced to be a PG when he is a more natural 2.
2. Henderson-when given minutes last year he showed he could score and he has done that this season so far. He is a solid athlete but not a great defender. I think his role would be better off the bench.
3. Orr-not sure due to injury but last year he was a decent scorer who did little wrong and not much extremely well. Should be a nice glue guy once the team comes together.
4. Holmes-great backside defender and very good athleticism on the offensive end. If anything I want him to shoot more.
5. Black-has seemed much more athletic this year then in years passed. I am not sure if he lot weight or just got his feet right. His post moves are very good, I really like his offensive game around the basket. 10 pts in the first half last night.
6. Tisdale-lengthy athlete who, as others have said, is a bit more pg then Clarke but can fill the 2 role as well. Very active on offense and looks for his shot, have not noticed him on the D side.
7. Parker-has really impressed me in the early going by building off what he did last year. He is so aggressive on the offensive side of tha ball that it leads to points despite not having a great offensive basketball skill set.
8. Sealey-did not impress last night although his athleticism in the zone was apparent. Outside of athleticism, I don't know what he offers you that Parker does not and they are essentially playing the same utility forward role.
9. Lyshe-I really wish they would give him a scholarship and consistently give him 5-10 minutes a game. He isn't great at anything but isn't bad either.
10. Gomez-Played a ton of solid minutes in game 2 but game 3 would have stretched him out too far and he wasn't needed as much with Sealey playing. I think he has a role on the team as he is essentially a stretch 5 and might be able to pull shot blockers out of the lane for some MAC teams.
11. Denney-No idea. I expect him to be the best shooter we have had in years but i worry about his athleticism on D and getting his shot.
Thoughts
1. I think a lineup of Clarke-Tisdale-Orr-Holmes-Black is our best starting group with Henderson and Parker quick off the bench.
2. I think that the eventually backcourt of Tisdale-Denney might be perfect and really fun to watch.

Re: 3 games in, what we have so far
Parker really stood out to me in either the OU or Akron game at the Stroh last year. He looked like the only guy we had that could hang with those teams athletically, and it showed as he ripped off 6 straight points in that game. He then went back to the bench for the rest of the game so Kraus & Erger could make us (the fans) look smart, but I digress. Tisdale looks like he falls into that mold as well. We are going to need those two on the floor A LOT against Akron/OU/Kent and the like just to be able to hang with them athletically.
Also saw Henderson compared to Brian Moten on another thread. He definitely does remind me of a poor man's Brian Moten. And by poor man's Brian Moten I mean poor man's freshman year Brian Moten, not poor man's Sr. year Moten.

LONG LIVE THE MONGOOSE!!
