You don't get frisked at Stroh either. They might check your bag if you are carrying one!

Honestly...do you really expect people to take your complaints seriously when you couch them in such ridiculous terminology?

I've been to all but probably 3-4 games since the Stroh opened. I've never once been "frisked". I've routinely snuck in 20 oz bottles of pop/water as well if I felt like it.

I really don't know what entrance people are going to that have these complaints. Yes, they make you open your purse and take a look in there...like every single other sporting venue I've been to in the past 10 years. Yes, they check your tickets before letting you into the section. It seems a bit over the top in an 85% empty arena, but I get that they want you to have a ticket for where you're sitting. Yes, they don't let you go back to your seat during play, but I actually LIKE that policy as somebody who wants to WATCH the games (although again it seems a bit over the top when it happened to me a couple games ago and there was nobody else even IN my section...).

I don't see anything I've experienced there being any different than what you experience at every other sporting venue. I routinely go to games at Comerica Park, Fifth-Third Field, Progressive Field, Quicken Loans Arena, Cleveland Browns Stadium, and the Huntington Center. The procedure is nearly identical at all of these venues, except for Cleveland Browns which now enforces the newer purse regulations laid out by the NFL.

I think the people complaining about the Stroh policies & procedures are people who have never been outside the Bowling Green city limits & have no idea what it's like out there in the real world. The Stroh Center is not the exception - Anderson Arena was the exception. Anderson Arena had no security whatsoever, there was always a door unlocked, & you could come and go as you pleased. That's not how it is in the real world.

Anderson Arena had Jim Elsasser and that was it. Occasionally, the BGSU PD would show up, but they would leave early to begin directing post game traffic. Amazing really as you look back at it. It's Bowling Green and it's change. Many times, those don't mesh real well.

I think a balance can be struck between the extremes of Mayberry-esque laissez-faire and procedures that appear wholly unnecessary for the circumstances.

Your nephew plays for UT? Very cool. Unless his name is Aubry or JD, he had a good game!

Yea, I have come to a crossroad of sorts. He is actually my wife's brother's boy. Zac Garber, from VanLue. It will be fun the next four years.

But that's just it - unless I'm missing something every time I come to the Stroh, I'm not seeing anything that is unnecessary or unreasonable. Maybe I'm wrong. If so, please let me know what's been going on that I'm missing.

Exactly...I don't know WTH people are talking about when they complain about the staff at the Stroh...Try going to a Lions game at Ford Field. They actually do frisk you there.

Personally I have never had a problem. I have heard of the diabetic who's purse was check and pieces (not bags) of candy were removed. I think what we have are a few overzealous employees.

I remember hearing in the late 80's/early 90's when an ROTC member was providing security at the Doyt upstairs and intercepted the alcohol intended for our biggest boosters in the boxes. I understood that individual was no longer welcome for that duty.

It seems to me that not only have we gotten used to somewhat tighter security (checking bags) but the security company has further educated it's employees, as well as relaxing some of the initial "rules". I have not seen or heard an honest complaint in this school year and I have been to almost every home football and basketball game.....of course that may have something to do with a new AD too!

Nice post Hammb. My pet peeve is people walking up and down aisles during play. At Major League baseball games, people will set through an entire between-inning break and then stand up to leave as soon as play starts again. There are plenty of time outs in a college basketball game.
