Word on twitter via Jordan Starck is that Shaun Joplin is working with the team in hopes of getting a spot and finishing the year with the basketball team. This woukld be the only season he could play....

Hope he can handle passes in basketball better than some of the ones he dropped in football. :o Seriously though, this would be interesting to see. I hope he makes it and can see the floor. I know we had a couple guys do it before in the last decade or so, but in Joplin's case, now that he has exhausted his football eligibility, I'd be all for seeing him get his shot.

This has got to help the depth. He's a great athlete and one more talented player may tilt a close game or two.

1. Adding another body obviously adds depth.
2. People use the word "great" too much. Joplin is an athlete. Maybe a good athlete. Nothin I've seen from him makes me think he's a great athlete.
3. "Talented" basketball player? Based on his play in pick-up games at the Rec Center?

In HS, Joplin was all state in two sports (football and track)....sounds like an exceptional athlete to me.

Interesting story........we were sitting with the ex BGSU receiver coach (Byrd), right after Brandon and staff had been fired, watching BGHS vs Southview play basketball when Joplin was a sophomore or junior, and Coach Byrd said, "I've never seen that kid play football, but I'd offer him right now!" A year or two later he was at BG.

Love those types of stories. Joplin's BG path would certainly be worth a tale.

Hj'd 7'1" in hs per j huddle. Didn't hear much about him due to Kizer and the kid from Napolean, both of whom jumped higher and went on to NCAA titles. Joplin was probably worse at hoops than either of his other two sports but he was still pretty good.
