CMU at BG

Post by BGSU33 »

Well, I tortured myself with the EMU and NIU games (one of the worst games I have ever watched in my life) already, so why stop now??? In fact, it's now becoming must-see TV (or video in this case) to see if God will allow BG to make free throws, outside shots, and win a game. Here all along I thought it took talent, skill, practice, coaching, etc. Silly me.

Well, we're losing, but with the exception of Clarke's horrible three three-point attempts, we're shooting both free throws and threes better so far....

Well, at least we will go into the second half with 20 points.

Hey, the team figured out how to shoot! That was ten quick points.

It's amazing how you can make a game more exciting and keep yourself in it by scoring some points. ;)

BG is shooting 9-12 from the line, has twice as many FG's (10) than TO's (5), has hit 4 threes (had a made three waved off before the buzzer) and is shooting a decent 40% from the floor.....and get this....is leading at the half 33-28. While we're not setting the world on fire offensively, we're light years ahead of what we did against NIU as we have scored only 3 less points in the first half of this one as we did all game vs NIU.

BG looking much, much better than the other day vs NIU. Still not a thing of beauty, but we're winning, and that's always a good thing.

Still not great but they actually looked like a real team tonight. Was very refreshing.

Holmes was good; Henderson and Parker looked as good as I've seen them. Clarkes shot was still awful but he played more under control than usual.

It was a nice win and a fun game to watch.

Agreed. If we could go out and play similar to this every night, we'd give ourselves a chance to win our share of games. We wouldn't run the MAC, but we wouldn't be in the bottom either. A performance like tonight and we're middle of the pack, and that's a heckuva lot better than we've been the previous four games about all we can honestly expect from this team. We just don't have enough horses, playmakers and overall talent to make a run this year even when we're firing on all cylinders. But we do have enough to avoid the cellar.

Good win. Much needed if this team wants to get to 10+ wins.

How does Denny look athletically and how are his handles?

I didn't get to Sunday's game, so I only saw him play last night. Looked like he must have been having some pain in the knee because he was icing it down again in the 2nd half and didn't get back onto the floor (that I recall) after playing 5-10 mins or so in the first half.

Shot looked pretty horrible, actually. Shot an airball wide of the rim, and made a 3 off the glass and kinda laughed and shrugged it off. I know the kid can shoot though. Dunno if it was jitters, just getting back into it, or what. But it didn't look good in his few attempts last night.

He did have a nice dribble around the key and got himself close to the rim once and missed a scooping type shot.

From what I saw he didn't look like a great athlete (not that I expected it) but didn't look greatly overmatched either. Of course he only played a few minutes so it'll take awhile before I come to any sort of conclusions. I just hope he gets that knee healthy and can start playing more minutes down the stretch.

I wonder if the knee isn't the issue. That and basically he's several months behind where he should be due to the recovery. I saw him play in high school against "questionable" competition. He had a nice looking release and had good enough ball skills to create his own shot. It's always hard to say how that will translate to the next level against much better athletes. He looked just as good in his aau vids though. He's a local guy for me, so I've got that little extra reason to want to see him succeed. I think he'll at least be a good role player. Hopefully the knee issue isn't something that lingers and he develops into a good player for us with some experience.
