Another scoreless game for Black going 0-7 from the field. In fact, Black hasn't scored a single point the last two games despite logging 68 minutes and has only scored 2 combined points the last three games and only 6 total points in four MAC contests. He has got to give us something. I know he is our last actual scoring option out of our starters, but for a team that tries to play inside-out ad nauseam, we are getting next to nothing (literally) from the center position with all the scoring coming from our 3 and 4 when we feed the ball inside. Black defends pretty well and rebounds well enough, but he has NO offensive game whatsoever. He gets nearly all of his points on tip-ins or second-chance points. When we feed him the ball he has no drop-step, no face-up, no shot-fake, just nothing. He tries that swooping semi-hook in the lane which is more of a hope-it-goes in shot than an actual move. He's Just another example of a four-year guy who never ever developed a thing offensively under Orr.

Black has a. Decent post game. He led the team in rebounds today and had a good number of blocks. His lack of athleticism keeps him from scoring a bunch but when he gets the ball cleanly in the post I have seen him put nice moves on his man and score smoothly in the paint. I can't speak to the last few games.

Cameron Black is a good post man in our league in that he rebounds and defends. And can pass the ball pretty well. As mentioned he is not a super athlete at all. Neither is Riley at EMU. The real key is Cameron would score more and have developed more if he wasn't counted on for 35 minutes a game and if surrounded by better athletes and scorers at other positions. In other words, if he was one of a 9 or 10 man true rotation and playing 25 minutes, his scoring would likely be up. He, among all the current players, would have benefited by the hard work and reliable play of Chauncey Orr. We had a great win today. Super comeback w hard nosed effort. But for us to really succeed, we needed a healthy Chauncey.

Damarkeo Lyshe has more points (3) on one shot in 9 minutes vs WMU than Cam Black has in the last three games (2 total points) in 91 minutes of action. Need I say more??? That simply can't happen. He's gotta give us something eventually out there offensively.

0 points for a starter and you still win. He must have done enough right to allow that to happen. Not the perfect formula but when it works you gotta go with it.

We obviously won in spite of Black's offensive performance. It clearly wasn't a formula to have him go 0-7 from the field to win. I'm not saying he didn't do anything to help the team win, he did without a doubt. In fact, we've actually won the last two games where he didn't score a single point. He clearly does things that helps us win, we just can't continue to have a starter who continues to play nearly an entire game contest after contest (Gomez is only in for him a few in minutes per game) continue to give us nothing on the offensive end. Despite the success we had from the perimeter and line yesterday, this team has struggled mightily to score at times and having a guy out there who isn't adding a thing offensively makes it like playing 4 on 5 for a team that is already facing an uphill battle to score often. We just can't keep having a starter log that many minutes and score as many points as we do from our couch.

Cam Black's lack of scoring does not bother me. Most of our opponents pack in a 2-3 zone and dare Clarke and Henderson to beat them, thus discouraging the ball to go inside. When we do force feed the ball into the post, it's usually going to Holmes and not to Black (if it doesn't get intercepted; our guards are not particularly good at post entry passes).

It may not show up in the box score, but his presence on the floor does a number of very important things:
- Strengthens post defense, challenges shots inside that Holmes doesn't get to
- Ensures the opposing defense stays in a 2-3 and can't just double Holmes
- Keeps Josh Gomez on the bench

All correct Matty B. There is no one else to play. Black must play. And will play. That is where we are. That is reality. He will play hard, rebound and defend. And- I will go out on a limb here- I predict he will have a couple of good offensive games in his last 10 or 12 games at BG. Appreciate what he does. It's a difficult situation not of his making. And he's a good guy. And that counts w me.

Gotta believe teams will continue to pack the lane (2-3 zone as mentioned) against us until someone like Henderson is consistent outside. I would want Holmes taking 15 ft to 3pt shots all night while contesting him at the backside block and prevent Cam backing my post down. Push both these guys out of the lane and make it very difficult if they ever get the ball in the lane. The 15+ foot shots from the rest of the team often don't draw iron. I don't think you will see Cam consistently score unless the outside shooting improves greatly.
