Barring anything highly unexpected, we are looking at the last few games of Louis Orr as our head coach, and I thought it would be appropriate to show some appreciation for his time at BGSU.

I appreciate how he ran the program with integrity. When he took over, few players made it from freshman to senior year. Under Orr, we had a great improvement in that department with players earning their degrees from Bowling Green State University. I appreciate his openness with the fans. I had a few chances to meet and talk with Louis Orr and have always been impressed with him as a man. As I've said before, if I had a son who was interested in playing college basketball, I would trust Louis Orr to be a mentor for his college years. I appreciate the aggressive defenses we saw on the court, including all kinds of blocked shots and turnovers. And I appreciate all the effort he has put into this program. Obviously the results have not been what we had all hoped for, but I fully appreciate how he always represented Bowling Green's values, how he never made news for the wrong reasons like other coaches, and how professional he has always been in all matters.

Somehow, I think of Jill Stein's 3.97 GPA and marvel. I suppose in 5 years or when dementia sets in, I'll look back on the Orr years fondly. Yeah, sure. He turned out some fine men, just not very talented ones. A gentleman to the end.

Hard to appreciate a coach that has lead this program into a coma. His program has had off court issues too. We started the season with some. This holy roller clean program that graduates everyone isn't all that.

This program will finally get some oxygen! Many of us season ticket holders have been holding our breath (cause we Stink)!

Let's move on! Orr has been paid well to be a good mentor.

In a few years I'll look back and say "he was here...and then he wasn't"....

Thanks Falcon 137 for the reminder. Mark L wants to take the high ride but coach Orr will rank as one of the worst coaches in BGSU history!!!

I do appreciate that him being the coach allowed for his son to play for BGHS. I got to enjoy a few good years of quality high school basketball and a NLL title. It was nice to see BG beat Perrysburg a few times

BTW, Lionel Sullivan was a DD2 project, not Orr. IIRC the kid didn't make grades in December and was dismissed from the team. The legal stuff occurred in January of 2007, not 2008.

It shows he played in 6 games. His mother sat behind us at AA in one or two of those games.

Of course, there's Germain Fitch and who was the kid that was in legal trouble but booked to a D3 school in Kentucky?

Don't get me wrong. I am quite ready for a change and a breath of fresh air for our program. I just believe in appreciating Orr's efforts when so much of his career has been at my Alma Mater. I am disappointed his tenure here did not go better. I thought there was going to be a very bright future after the 08-09 season. That season turned out to be a bit of a mirage, though it was a blast seeing the players Dakich recruited playing so well. I do believe the right coach can have wild successes here, between the town, arena, athletic department, and hungry fanbase.

Once a Falcon always a Falcon...or does that only apply to people who are successful.

We might as well just have had a priest or a professor as head basketball coach.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems the only coach BG has had is one that has a philosophy about coaching and never changes his mind, in spite of the players he has. I think only John Weinert was able to play with the hand dealt him. Larranaga, Dakich, and Orr, not so much. Larranaga sort of muddled along until he got some winning recruits, DD2 was too Bobby Knight and his motionless offense when he didn't recruit players who could play that system, and Orr went downhill the minute George Jackson was fire^h^h^h^h allowed to resign.

Rumors are that he lost discipline on the team and the stars were allowed to dictate the practices. Clearly in the last 2 years, there was no recourse to a player who made a mistake on the court, since the roster has been so thin. The last two "point" guards would never have been on the court for 10 minutes, let alone
30.

I never pay much attention to the other coaches, except Women's BB, so I guess I can't tell if that is true, but are other coaches one-dimensional?

Did Jackson leaving basically all happen because of the Clements confrontation? How did Orr never have to explain that mess?
