I was excited to see what was happening. No news. Shoot. Guess I won't push this button again....

I just don't understand what the purpose of bringing back threads 3 years old and then saying BUMP. I am highly educated and keep up with the new online lingo but not familiar with 'bump'. If someone can fill me in on what the purpose of 'bump' is on a thread that's been dead for 3 years I would appreciate it.

A bump allows us to revisit a thread which may be relevant again or see the general opinions of the board then vs now. I thought revisiting the thread when Orr was hired was interesting. Mostly excitement but some doubt over hiring a retread.

Thanks Mark. The only bump I am used to are potholes on the freeway. Instead of saying bump couldn't we just say revisiting an old thread.

When I saw this thread, I thought Curly Neal or Meadowlark Lemon had died...

gmartin, slang pervades human communication all over the world. Understanding slang means understanding people, attitudes, and cultures and helps you adapt to new environments. Slang is sociologically salient, as it can show cultural unity and can demonstrate inter-group empathy. The liberties behind slang pervade literature and poetry. Imagine reading Shakespeare or Chaucer literalistically. Slang - give it a try.

Here, "bump" means "bump up in the order". "Bump" has other slang usages. Personally, I love going back in time and reflecting on past thoughts and attitudes. I learn contrasting them with present thoughts and circumstances.
