Call me crazy and all...but I would be willing to bet that had we fired Orr last season, we wouldn't have the coach we do now. Everything happens for a reason. I know we haven't played a game yet with coach Jans, but I have to believe that he is the right guy at the right time for this program. So how about we all just enjoy the newfound buzz surrounding the program and stop with the shoulda, coulda, woulda stuff and criticizing the university's decision not to spend extra funds on a buyout. Enough of the doom and gloom.

Good Point...I just hate wasting entire years. I think going all in for Football and Basketball pays huge financial dividends.

The season is history...we have a new coach. Do we really need to rehash the Orr years beyond saying "well...that didn't go as planned" ?

I agree we should have fired orr, but in all honesty I'm glad we didn't have Christopher hiring his replacement. No way we would have lannded a guy like Jans.
It sucks that we threw years away, but I think it worked out better in the end.

I never got the impression that Christoper liked it here...that he enjoyed being a part of the community. I think Kingston is having fun with the job. His first hire, Babers, seems to really grasp the importance o promoting the program and establishing an identity you can sell (Falcon fast). It will be interesting to see if Jans follows a similar tack.

Sorry. Didn't mean to go negative. Just wanted to point out how short sided making coaching decisions based off eating a one year salary is.

Yes, why indeed would we think Greg Christopher could fire a coach resulting in a payout or that he could be trusted to make a good hire afterwards?

Why? Because he also hired Louis Orr. Then he gave a Orr an extra 2 years after nearly 35 losses in 2 years.

It will be interesting to see what he'll do if Chris Mack leaves (possibly for Wake Forest of all places). He's already made a hire in women's basketball by promoting their interim coach last year during the season.

To quote the Toledo board...
Dude's gone. Get over it.

C'mon transfer. It's not the AZZ way. I think I still saw the horse twitching and it's going to take at least 10 posts to verify that before we can be certain the horse is dead LOL

Don't apologize. I really don't understand why some people get their panties in a wad simply because a topic is brought up for discussion. This IS a forum to talk about issues is it not? There's not a damn thing wrong with going a bit reflective on this issue and talking about what might have been one way or the other. Talking about it isn't going to stop things from progressing and getting better, and it isn't going to damage anyone's psyche.
The fact remains that retaining Orr, no matter what the reason, was the wrong decision. The man was an awful coach, and the damage to this program has been significant over a number of years, especially in terms of the BG brand in men's basketball.
Could things end up great down the line? Yes. But we have no way of knowing if that couldn't have happened sooner if Orr hadn't been extended or if he'd been let go before this past season.

So if the coach was fired say 5 years ago we would have been in the Final Four last year. Now that you point that out I fully agree with your posts past, present and future.
I simply hope we're in The Dance within the next 5 years. Final Four and all the attention Wichita State has gotten seems a little high on the expectation scale but certainly would be the Frack dream. Let's dream big for the future but there really is no need to dream about changing the past.

We often discuss the value of a solid basketball team to the university as a whole. This is just actual evidence.
