Coach Darnell RT @ZachFleerLGHL: In addition to the UNC Asheville offer, '15 Delaware Hayes F Khalil Iverson has just been offered by Bowling Green - See more at: http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/kh ... oDHGq.dpuf" target="_blank
This is an interesting one. I am not sure he does anything great in his highlights but playing smart near the basket which at 6-3 would be negated. We're just seeing a handful of minutes of his game but I'm not impressed.
Court vision is a strength in this video. I'd love someone else to watch it and give me there input. He does the things that indicate a great athlete. Dunks and take notice shot blocks throughout. But. He just doesn't feel like an explosive athlete. Could be wrong but he seems to just barely be dunking-(although he's doing it a lot).
I kind of feel like he plays like a 4 in the body of a 2

Hell........he made more foul shots in that video than a few of our guards made all year!

I'll take him over 4 current scholarship players and maybe more.

Not sure where I'd play him. Has a nice handle and really good vision, so you think maybe he could be a really physical 2 or a wing that can drive and create, but he don't recall even one instance where he spotted up, got squared and hit a shot, so I have to assume he can't. Not really keen on a SG or SF who can't spot and shoot at least a little. He gets off the floor well and doesn't shy away from contact. If he were 6-7 or so I'd be on board playing him as a PF.

What's your take on him athletically? I feel like he is dunking a ton but it doesn't look explosive. Just a really weird prospect athletically. He doesn't need to be perfect all around by any means. I just can't get a handle on him as an athlete.

The MAC is a league full of undersized frontcourt guys .... Gary Trent, Anthony Stacey, Jerome Tillman, Tim Pollitz, Antonio Gates, Romeo Travis, etc ...
I think he's a three that could eventually give you four minutes down the road. Right now, he doesn't have enough ass to play on the block or defend it. But he's got a great frame, he understands body positioning and don't confuse an easy jumper with a lazy (unathletic) jumper. Kid gets off his feet well and there's a few clips where he goes backdoor or is finishing breaks by catching the ball, one step and he's on the rim. That is no easy task for any of us that have played.
I think he has some solid not great guards that really understand what their coach wants them to do as well.
The JC kids are going to provide some immediate relief but we need to balance that with a few four year guys as well or this roster is going to turn over faster than my tab on Thursday nights at Downtown's $1.25 Captain and Coke's

Plan on picking up a roster before the games. It's gonna take a another year to get to 4-year players but don't expect the steady stream of JUCO players to stop. I think Coach Jans will use that option as long as he is here and that's fine with me as long as they produce athletically and academically.

Trust me, I have ZERO issue with JUCOs ... Many of them are high risk, high reward types and having four coaches on the staff well versed in the JUCO game, I trust that they will identify the guys that will fit and meet your wishes as well. I just think there's a balance somewhere from a roster management and player development perspective. Ultimately. We need 13 dudes that fit what Coach Jans is looking for

What's even more interesting is that Ohio's new coach seems to be taking the opposite approach. He's talking about focusing almost exclusively on in-state high school players and promising to visit every HS coach in the state. Neither approach is necessarily better or worse than the other. Both can succeed and both can fail depending on how they're implemented.
It's time to get to work doing the things Division I programs do. How about video interviews of the assistants posted on YouTube? An interactive webchat with Coach Jans and/or the assistants? A "Falcon View" style regular Q&A video feature with Jans where questions from fans are answered? "Mic'd Up" videos with Jans, the assistants or players on the practice court?
While we're at it, how about a coaching clinic where the top high school and AAU coaches are personally invited to attend? How about individual, team and youth basketball camps like Toledo and Akron run to get players to campus and engage the community?
I fully and completely expect none of the above to be implemented based on past history but one can always hope.

Happily wrong about this prediction. Skills camp, team shootout, shooting camp (!), high school elite camp:
