I've been a fan of BG athletics since I arrived on campus as a freshman in 1980, but I can't ever remember more buzz surround the two highest profile programs. Babers and Jans generate the hype; let's hope they also generate wins and butts in the seats! I've never been more excited for two seasons to begin ! I'm confident we are in for great times ahead!

I feel the attitude from the athletic director and even from the president is very different than ever before. I think they all see the value of success breeding success. I think the key is it takes more than wins. A bland winning coach gets bland interest. I have been to the Doyt for championship games that were far from sold out. Liked Blackney but he never could market the program. BGSU is getting personality and now it's time to get wins.

Absolutely. We are the only FBS school with a new AD, head football coach and head basketball coach all within the past year. The enthusiasm is palpable. It's still the honeymoon period for all three but their actions and language have only served to entice the fan base that much more in anticipation of what's to come. Let's hope the qualities that have endeared us to them (responsiveness to fans, increased expectations, desire to implement exciting styles of play, emphasis on high-level recruiting) continue.

I am just as anxious as any BG fan, as HCCJ was a fantastic coach and recruiter for WSU. You can bet he will mold the team to look similar to WSU over the past few years. That's why he didn't get the FGCU job last year. FGCU wanted to keep the uptempo, high flying stunts to keep it entertaining, not necessarily build a team to be successful year in and year out. But that's all good news for BG because he will build a very solid foundation. He is just as hungry for success as he was at WSU. You can bet he will aim for the NCAA from the get go, and once you are in, all bets are off. It's an exciting time to be a BG fan!! Good luck, and go Falcons! (Do you guys have another rally cry? is that what ay-ziggy-zoomba is?)

Ay Ziggy Zoomba
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zoomba
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Ze
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zoomba
Ay Ziggy Zoomba Zoomba Zi
Roll along you BG warriors
Roll along and win for BGSU
Ay Ziggy Zoomba is Bowling Green’s unofficial fight song. Gilbert Fox, an Air Force bombardier in World War II stationed in Italy, brought a loose translation of a Zulu war chant back with him, and since its introduction in 1946 to a campus spirit assembly, it has kept its place in BGSU history. The Falcon football team traditionally sings “Ay Ziggy Zoomba” after each victory.

I disagree completely. Just win. Do it without bending the rules past what everybody else may or may not do. But I don't need a cheerleader. I'll take a cheerleader if they win. But it's not required. Just win.

The marketing folks seem to like to steal from Penn State's "We Are!" chant...which I dislike, immensely. It lacks creativity and too many other schools use it.
On the other hand, BG has also used the cheer: Roll Along! Which is taken from a line in Ay-Ziggy Zoomba. It's totally BG's own, which is why I have always thought it, and it alone, should be used by the marketing wonks. But I'm just a graduate, a fan and a Falcon Club member so...what the heck do I know?

The Falcons are gonna be real happy with Coach Jans. In Wichita, he is held in extra high regard by the other coaches, players and fans.
"Since 1968." That was a long time ago. I look forward to following your team and Coach Jans.
With you permission, I will be back from time to time to learn how the team and fans are faring.
Go Falcons.

Football has not demonstrated that winning is not enough to fill the stadium. Those of us who like the game would like to think winning cures all that ails the attendance issue but I see no proof at BG and it's not because the facilities have been too big.

Not that you really need my permission, or anybody else's, but by all means keep returning! I think you'll find that we're a pretty friendly bunch of fans. I'll readily admit that the hoops forum has been full of cynicism and negativity over the past few years, but that should be expected given the state of our program during that time period.
I think we're all on a high now; and I know I personally see Jans as the absolute best coaching candidate we ever could have landed. Now it appears that he's already hit the ground running with some great recruiting news...and been involved in a couple SI articles as well.
This is the man that is going to save BG Hoops...I truly believe that.

"Why is the concession food always cold?" "Why can't the concession workers count change?"

I ran across this site while I was looking for lyrics. My father is from South Africa and he used to sing this song to us when we were young...
ZULU WARRIOR
I ziga zumba zumba zumba,
I ziga zumba zumba zai.
I ziga zumba zumba zumba,
I ziga zumba zumba zai.
Hold him down, you Zulu warrior,
Hold him down, you Zulu chief.
Hold him down, you Zulu warrior,
Hold him down, you Zulu chief, chief, chief...
Whilst half the group chant 'Chief, Chief. Chief.....
the other half start the song over.
Just saying. looks a lot like the fight song. This has been in S. African culture since the Zulu wars (1870's). Considered a children's song/camp fire song for boy scouts etc..
