UT vs EMU

Man I wish we could have gotten one more crack at Toledo had we beaten EMU. It was another tough year for BG against UT being that we played them only once in football (thought we might see them again in the MACC) and also only once in basketball, and both of those games were at Toledo. Would've been nice to try our hand at them on a neutral floor on hoops tonight. We "should" host UT in hoops next year and we do host them in football.

As I expected, EMU has lost its shooting touch from last night. They are 2/11 from three at halftime. Hell last night against us, they hit the first three threes that they took. Why couldn't they have shot and played like this against us?

It must be something BG does. EMU is stinking out the joint, Lee is 3-6 from the foul line and EMU is down by 15 going into the 4 minute timeout.

EMU ends up 8/28 from 3. Talley 4/12 Lee 5/16 from the field.
Geeze. We either suck at defense or EMU just played the game of their lives last night.

But it wasn't just EMU, Buffalo and Kent State torched us too. Teams were hitting threes like free throws in big stretches against us and it cost us dearly. Buffalo hit 5 of them in a matter of just over two minutes to erase our 14-point lead just like that. Kent State was hitting then all game long including the one that buried us for the 1-point loss.
Teams know we are small across the board on the perimeter with with no real threat to challenge a shot with Clarke, Henderson, Denny, Joseph and Austin all 6-2 and under, coupled with how we weren't closing out and were playing guys way too much for the drive. We relied too much on "playing the percentages" of them not being able to maintain a high shooting percentage from three (Jans eluded to it several times) and we got burned with that defensive philosophy. In hindsight, that was an adjustment Jans should have made and didn't in any of those games and he/we got burned by it. Those team simply did not cool off and the percentage did not balance out, they shot well over their averages in all those games and we paid for it with three close and costly losses.

What was final score of EMU / TU game? From comments sounds like Eagles stopped flying. We were at the Q lastnite and our guards were getting killed by drives to the hole, but little rotation to get a block or take a charge. And EMU's shooting % was way below BG's ...but had 17 MORE shots and a ton more FT's.

Akron has stormed back and has cut it to 2. God I miss seeing BG playing in the later rounds in this thing!

Game now tied. Teams are trading blows. Wish this was us and UT earlier. It would've been cool to see back-to-back games versus rivals tonight.

WHAT A FINISH!!! Akron won by 2 after Kent State hit a 3 just after the buzzer so the shot was waved off. Another half of a second and it would have won the game. Holy cow!
