Please don't . . .

Just save all the BS about Greg Paulus and Jeff Boals for your Buckeye message boards. I literally have no patience to read that garbage here. They've developed NO ONE and can't get out of their own way.
At some point when I get over the shock of this all, I'll post one of my coaching lists, but what a truly sad day, just when we were looking up!

How about you save all the anti-OSU BS for your visits to a Wolverine Fan Boi site?
See how that works?
Honestly, I don't get how people get this way. Boals has been learning under a coach who has a very successful coaching tree going -- and you want to just dismiss him out of hand because he's from OSU. What kind of basketball fan does that, if you're looking for really good candidates for your team?
To judge Boals or Paulus (who I think is a bit too young yet for a head coaching job) by the lack of development of a few recent recruits (as opposed to an entire body of work) is ridiculous. Sometimes, recruits just don't work out, and it has NOTHING to do with the coaching they received. If you watched any OSU games at all, you know that Amir Williams was rarely motivated to play up to his talent. Not much you can do when a guy just doesn't seem to be interested in playing.
Let's not forget: that same group actually did get to a Final Four and an Elite Eight, so it's not like the coaching hasn't been excellent, for the most part.

Not that we need another coaching thread with the other one but I cannot fathom why anybody would want an osu assistant here. They continually underachieved with one of the largest budgets in college basketball. Even if they did consistently play up to their budgetary level, what in the heck does being an assistant at osu teach somebody about coaching at the Mac level?
Give me a guy like Jans who was around highly successful mid majors over somebody that's been living with the budget of a third world country any day.

Boals' non development of his players is much more of factor in my unfavorable opinion of him than who I root for on fall football Saturdays.
That's why you won't see me pushing Bacari Alexander, Lavell Jordan and Jeff Meyer either. I don't like the idea of the B1G assistants.
Huger on the other hand UNDERSTANDS Bowling Green having played here.
Downey is a part of the community and has won everywhere he's been. The question of would we consider him if he wasn't here? I certainly hope so. I hope we would consider a coach with his track record regardless of where he has coached that has his W-L record and success at varying levels . But moreso than anything else, he's a WINNER and by all accounts a good guy.

Ou, Dayton, Xavier, butler. His assistants have had success at tons of mid majors.

Matta wins twenty games every year and has all Americans. He is an incredible coach and we would be lucky to get boals. Mattas assistants are much more involved then most. That's why they are so successful

You can't be serious. The facts prove you are dead wrong. Matta assistants went to OU, Butler, Xavier and Dayton -- and had great success. As for continually "underachieving" -- what the heck are you basing that on: lack of a national title? If so, then Kentucky must be the biggest failure in basketball history right now.
Matta has won 5 conference titles in 11 years, and 4 conference tournament titles. He's been to two Final Fours and several Elite Eights in that time. There are probably 300 D-1 basketball programs that would LOVE to have such a record. Period.
With the success of his previous assistants at OHIO schools and recruiting OHIO, I cannot fathom why anyone would think Boals should not be on the short list of candidates. Hopefully, Christopher is a lot smarter about this than some of our fans apparently are.
As for the comment about the lack of development being the reason for not wanting Boals: Given how well the program has done in most years, and the amazing success of his coaching tree, the preponderance of evidence would seem to be that this particular class was a huge fluke. It happens. You just can't judge a coaching staff's entire body of work on something like this and consider yourself objective and fair.l

Downey has been a HC at the collegiate level (albeit DII) . Most of the high major assistants listed haven't. Not sure how important that will be to Kingston, but he does have that going for him.

I hope the decision is made very quickly and Mark Downey is announced as the new head basketball coach at BGSU.

Right. Because a momentary brain lapse negates all the truth I've written. Try again.

Me too. Maybe he won't hire a drunk who molests women in bars this time.

Evidently some folks do NOT know who our AD is....

Here is my question about Boals and really its a question for the Boals supporters. I don't follow college hoops how I used to and I rarely watch any OSU games so its why I ask. If Boals is so highly thought of in the coaching world, why isn't he a head coach yet? I'm pretty sure his name came up on here in 07 after Dakich was gone again, and there have been plenty of MAC jobs along with others open between then and now. Again I don't follow or watch much OSU basketball so I don't really know his coaching style or who he coaches, just curious because I've seen his name mentioned for many head coaching openings in the past and he hasn't gotten any of them
