All BG team since 98

98 is when I first started following BG sports so I was just thinking who would be on my all BG team since then. Would Holmes start? I17 years is a bit of an odd time cutoff but that takes away Daniels so I am going to do it anyway.
1 Pardon-Crawford
2 McCleod-Samarco
3 Stacey-Scott Thomas-Reimold
4 Holmes-Nate Miller-Calhoun
5 Matela-Netter-Ahlmonson
We have been loaded with solid Forwards.

I might flip Holmes to the 5 as a starter and start Almanson and Stacey at forward. Almanson had a really nice outside in game...I would not put Calhoun on the team at all. Other than that...Good deal

I can live with your starters, but I'm not really in tune with the rest of the lineup. No way I'd let Crawford on the team. I would rather just play with Pardon as my only rostered PG than let him waste the talent of the rest of the group by controlling the ball all game long. I think my backup SG is actually Ron Lewis, but I think Ronnie could play the point a little bit so I'd put him there just to give me a 2nd PG, I guess. Wasn't a big Samarco fan either, but if I'm putting Lewis at PG, I probably have to let him play.
I think of Nate more of a 3 than a 4, and I think of Almanson as more of a 4. Not sure Calhoun belongs on the team either. Scott Thomas is an interesting one because he put up good total numbers but to me most of that was by being on the team for 4 years and starting it all...not because he was ever really GOOD. For instance on the same roster I'd play Reimold over him every time.
I also think Polk was a better player than Kevin Netter, but I'm basing that solely on my memories of them and haven't gone backwards to look at numbers or anything. I will always see Netter as a bit of a flake who never lived up to potential. Polk wasn't nearly the athlete of Netter but he developed into a pretty good defender/rebounder. Of course neither of them could ever stay on the court because of foul trouble.
1 Pardon-Lewis
2 McLeod-Samarco
3 Stacey-Miller-Reimold
4 Holmes-Almanson
5 Matela-Polk
Could make a real good argument for moving Holmes to the starter at the 5, letting Almanson start at the 4 and having Miller backup the 4 spot, bumping Polk off the roster. Really wish I could come up with another guard to bump Samarco who I wasn't a fan of, but sadly I can't. The way I see it McLeod, Lewis, and Pardon are really the only 3 above average guards we've had here in the last 17 years. Can we really not go back an extra year to put Daniels at the PG, move Lewis to the SG backup, and call it a day? LOL

The issue is that some of these guys will have to be role players.
Crawford: For me Crawford can play point any time Miller or Stacey are in the game. Both of them can control the offense and distribute. He can play defense and break down the offense.
Samarco: He is an ideal off the bench scorer. Pop him in, if he is hot he gets more minutes, if he is not he gets less.
Reimold: Spaces the floor, and to be honest Esterkamp probably needs to be on this list as well. They were similar players.
Thomas: He can play with anyone at any time. He would be an incredible utility guy on nearly any team. I think he would be better the less we ask him to score.
Netter: In hindsight I would get rid of Ahlmanson and go with Polk. He was such a defensive presence. Netter stays IMO because of his ability to run the floor. Bench guys won't get tons of minutes with Matela-Holmes and Calhoun and Stacey and Miller able to play the 4. I would want my bench guy to be more athletic then anything else.
Calhoun: I think he is too solid all around to take off. The guy could really play when he was in it.

You need to back in up one more year to 1997 and put Antonio Daniels on it. Even if you didn't see his career his senior year alone was fantastic.

Who wins between the Stacey and Esterkamp team and the Matela-McLeod-Pardon team.

Calhoun could play when he was in it...perhaps...but there were way too many games where he wasn't "in it". Never developed much of an inside game apart from the jump hook while crossing the lane. By the end of his sr year he was content to jack up threes even when he had the opportunities to work the low post.
Incredible waste of talent....

Any team without Germain Fitch as a bench player seems to be an oversight

The fact that Otis Polk's name even came up in this thread tells me all I need to know about BGSU basketball the last 17 years...

Not to rain on anyone's parade, but who are these guys and what are they doing in this thread? 1. Moved on to greener pastures, I think a legal issue arose. 2. Cole played only 4 or 5 games, (Thanks DD ya hoser) can't have a walk-on football player show up the scholarship players 3. Who? 4. Brent was probably a role player, but not great and Cory?

Yeah I didn't think I'd have to say I was joking with this post... Nobody remembers Patrick Phillips? Walk on, dropped 10 on OU back in 06'. And I choose Cory Ryan as my 6th man.
