Nice win to start the Huger era

Absolutely! 24th home opening win in a row for BG, 79-61. Cincy in town Wed night.

Saw a lot of things to like today. Coach Huger says they improve every day. By February, we ought to be pretty good.

4 posts about the win? That's surprising. I was trying to avoid coming here before I finished it on replay.

My thoughts.

1. Great win. We have a ton of aggressive guard depth now. I love it. Denny-Joseph-Ali-Alcegaire-Lillard-Malik-Tisdale
2. Gomez and Wiggins did not play. That is interesting to me. Everybody else got in. Is Gomez injured or on suspension? Is Wiggins maybe being redshirted?

Position by position
1. Joseph was more in control this game but not special. 3 points 5 boards, 3 assists 1 turnover
-->Ali again was the more dynamic pg. He is a better ball handler and athlete. 7pts, 3 rebounds, 2 assists 4 turnovers.
2. Denny was solid. Its telling that he finished with 11pts and 5 rebounds and was just ok.
-->Tisdale had 6pts, 3rbs and 2 blocks.
3. Alcegaire started off firing up shots. I don't love that. he ended 5-12 with 14 points. If he can get more to fall and improve his shot selection that will be ok but I hate the black hole feeling he gives me with the ball in his hands.
-->Lillard is a stud. He finished with 13 points and 3 boards. He is so aggressive to the basket and just seems really smart as well. He is going to be special. Lillard played 25 minutes off the bench.
4. Parker looked ok. 5 points and 4 rebounds in 26 minutes. I think he will have games like this and games where he leads us in scoring.
5. Worrell looked fantastic. 15 points, rebounds. He was aggressive to the basket and very god.
-->Mayleben was ok. He had 5 boards and had a nice basket but his athleticism seems like it will just keep him from being anything from a 5-10 minute guy in the paint. Seems like a guy you love to have on your team, but don't want playing often.

Fox-Malik and Busuttil all played under 10 minutes. No one stood out.

Id be interested to go back and see who played the 4 when Parker was out.
Also what the plans are with Wiggins and Gomez.

Interesting that Wiggins didn't get in the game. Gomez didn't play at all in the exhibition either I don't think. Not sure if he's hurt or what.

I honestly don't think Gomez fits what Huger wants to do very well. The exhibition we took everything to the hoop. Our guards were penetrating, and our bigs were cutting for passes. A guy like Gomez clogs the lane way too much for that style of basketball, IMO. He hasn't shown the ability to step out and hit a shot, so I'd rather not just have the big body clogging it all up.

I'm anxious for the game this week against Cincy.

I would agree but I don't think Mayleben is that much more athletic.

I would agree but I don't think Mayleben is that much more athletic.

I don't think so either, but Mayleben did bury a three in the exhibition game.

Now I've never seen him do that in the past and it quite possibly could have been blind luck. But if he has ANY ability to step out and draw a defender away from the paint he has more value than Gomez, IMO. Neither player is a guy I really wanna see getting a lot of minutes, but if you have to have a plodder in the middle I'd play the guy with a chance to move out of the 3' area over the one who cannot.

Ultimately I don't think either will play a major role on this team.

Agree. The Sentinel reporter said on twitter that Wiggins should be a part of things going forward but didn't think Gomez would be. Mayleben did have a nice basket during the game.

you said it! This could develop into one of the better one-two punch combos we've had in a while. Couple that with a top flight point guard in the future and we could really put some pressure on teams. Gonna be fun to watch
