BG starts month long road swing at SEMO

Post by BGSU33 »

BG won't return home until Jan 2nd as the next 4 games will all be on the road starting with SEMO today. It sure would be nice to get things started with a win as SEMO is winless on the year (0-7). But we all know how road wins can be hard to come by. I do like the progress we've seemed to have made in recent week though. I hope we keep it up.
GO BG!!!

BG wins 79-52

Denny and Parker each had 18 pts.

BG was 10-18 on 3 pointers

The competition we are playing is sub-par however with each win we are gaining confidence. 7-2 record. I will take that.

I watched the game on the OVC network and the announcers said this BG team is the best shooting and passing team they have seen this year. SEMO just played Memphis.
BG had 23 assist and 10 turnovers! That's impressive!

I watched it too and we played a very good overall game. I know SEMO is off to a tough start but we were clearly the better team and played the much better game.

Our passing this year has been better than I've seen it since Pardon was here. Every game there multiple times I comment on it.

Oddly enough that sort of thing can lead to better shooting ;) Seriously though I don't know where our 3 point shooting is coming from all of a sudden. Don't yet know what to make of it, but guys are really making strides.

This is a really good sign for the Huger era. It's early, but it sure looks like we are in a better position than what we thought coming out of last year and after Orr. Exciting!

Team is solid all around. I like that rotations are changing. Not sure who the second big is. Started out as Mayleben then was Gomez for a minute but Wiggins took the minutes last night. It really doesn't matter. I am always happy to see a Sr get quality effective minutes in his last year though and Gomez did that a bit. We have 2 more scholarships out there. I will be excited to see who we go for. Likely a big.

I think Malik eventually takes Tisdales minutes. Tisdale is too sloppy out there.

Tisdale has been sloppy, but his size/athleticism have put him in position to make plays that Malik just cannot make at his size. I kinda think Malik's minutes will be limited this year with both Joseph & Ali out there. It's pretty clear that Denny will play a ton as a 2, but the other guys getting minutes at that 2/3 role are all much bigger...Alcegaire, Lillard, and Tisdale. I think Huger really likes to have that size out there...haven't seen much time this year with more than one of Malik/Joseph/Ali on the court at the same time.

I dont think Malik has played PG this year yet. But I get your point on the size differential. Ali and Joseph played together a bit at the end of the game 2 games ago.

The rotation seems to be
1 Joseph-Ali
2 Denny-Tisdale-Malik
3 Alcegaire-Lillard-Tisdale
4 Parker-Alcegaire
5 Worrell-Mayleben/Gomez/Wiggins

I wonder if we go smaller at times with Denny at the 3. We did that last year.

It seems like Ali is the first off the bench and splits time.
Then Tisdale-Lillard and a Big come on to sub almost everyone out. But either Parker or Denny. As i am working through this, does Tisdale sometimes play the 4?

I haven't noticed him playing what I'd call the 4, but I don't generally pay THAT close of attention. His size/length has given some teams problems on the perimeter though. He's gotten hands/fingers on balls that other guys wouldn't. Unfortunately his out of control style on the break hasn't allowed it to really manifest itself in easy buckets yet.

Speaking of easy buckets I thought sure Alcegaire was gonna throw down a sweet dunk last Saturday and came up just short and then I thought he hurt himself when getting stoned by the rim. Something tells me he wants that one back and will throw down a good one soon.

Speaking of easy buckets, I thought you were going got talk about Spencer Parker last night. He was consistently the first guy down the floor and they lost him 2-3 times for layups.

I didn't really watch much last night. I had the game on in my browser but if I tried to make it full screen it got so choppy it was unwatchable. In the window it was so small I didn't enjoy watching it much. I mostly just flipped back and forth to keep tabs on the score.

At this point I'm done with OOC play. We got drilled by the one truly good team on our schedule, and we've been beating up pretty well on a lot of lower tier teams. I'm ready for MAC season already to see where we really stack up against our conference mates. Honestly the way we've played thus far I have no idea what to expect. The Cincy game was ridiculous but we've been consistently beating up on teams that are, most likely, closer in talent to what we'll see in the MAC than Cincy was.

I'm ready for answers that we just won't get until the real season starts. I do have to admit this team is already light years better than I thought they'd be. I honestly thought we'd struggle with our OOC schedule as well...which was, I thought, why we set it up with a lot of lower tier competition. Nice to see that we've beaten up these teams...I'm ready to step up the competition.
