Rule change...???

I posted this under another topic but I am asking this question to all that may know. There used to be a rule that basketball players were not allowed to dunk the balls during warm-ups and if they did, it was a technical foul. In fact, I remember a college game last year (I don't remember who it was) in which it started with foul shots for doing just that. This year, though, I have seen numerous players have a slam dunk contest during warm-ups with the referees watching. Did that rule change in the offseason??

Was this during the actual clock is running warm up? Or were they just out shooting around beforehand.

My Sr year of HS my team in the big Sr class vs faculty basketball game was assessed a technical because I went all Dr Flip on them in warm ups. The ref came over to our layup line and said do that again and it's a T...so...I laughed at him and did it again...and again. Damn...I was such a rebel :butthead:

Yes it was... the referees were out watching them about 7 minutes before the game...

You can now dunk during warmups. The NCAA removed the prohibition of dunking in pregame warmups starting with this season 2015-2016.

In case you missed it there were several rule changes. The prohibited arc under the basket is now 4 feet. A time out no longer eliminates the backcourt 10 second rule. After the timeout the count starts where it was before the time out. No longer a 5 second stationary dribbling rule. Players can get a Technical for a flop or fake foul. Shot clock is now 30 seconds. The coach can no longer call a timeout from the sideline during live play. A player on the court must call the timeout. Speaking of timeouts. If a team calls a time out 30 seconds prior to the media time outs, the media timeout is eliminated.

But yes you can dunk in pregame warmups

Thanks for the info... I knew that such an informed group of scholars would know...

Most were good changes imo.

I've really enjoyed watching the dunks in warmups. I love the shorter shot clock. I like the timeout nullifying the media timeout. Big fan of making the players call the timeout as well.

I do think I'll miss the 5 seconds closely guarded but its not like it came up that often anyhow.

I agree... really like the quicker pace of the game and the timeout rules... I will have to say that I would LOVE to see an elimination of some more of the time outs. It makes the end of the game really drag on and I am not sure it enhances it. It would be nice to see two fulls and a thirty per half.
