NIU Recap of Sundays game

Now this is the type of recap we need on our bgsufalcons.com site. Forget the AP Wire recap. We need someone within the AD department to write a new recap of the game for those who missed it. Here is a recap from the NIU website.

Bowling Green Seniors Combine For 42 Points, Pace 78-67 Win Over Northern Illinois
Box Score
Bowling Green, OH - Northern Illinois got a career high 18 points from sophomore center James Hughes, but the Huskies couldn't overcome Bowling Green's outstanding senior duo of Josh Almanson and John Reimold, as the Falcons claimed a 78-67 home win over the Huskies Sunday (Jan. 9) afternoon.
Almanson and Reimold each scored 21 points to help the Falcons win their ninth game in 10 tries and improve to 3-0 in league play. In addition to Hughes' career high point total, Todd Peterson continued his outstanding offensive play of late, tallying 19 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range, while grabbing a season high seven rebounds. Over his last five games, Peterson is averaging 13.6 points and has scored 19 on two occasions. The junior forward also scored 19 at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Dec. 29).
One thing about this young Northern Illinois squad, it's resilient. Down as many as 18 (61-43) in the second half, the Huskies just kept battling. After Germain Fitch scored a fast break lay-up to put the Falcons up 18 with 10:00 left, the Huskies dug in on both ends of the floor and mounted their comeback. Peterson and freshman Zach Pancratz started a 14-5 run with back-to-back three-pointers to cut the lead to 12. Reimold, who hit 5-of-7 three-pointers, answered with a trey of his own, but Cory Sims made a pair of free throws and Peterson tipped home a Johnathan Byrd miss to keep the rally buoyed. Paige Paulsen matched another Almanson jumper and a 17-foot shot by Hughes at 4:43 pulled the Huskies within single digits for the first time since early in the second half.
"I like the way our guys continued to fight," head coach Rob Judson said. "They enjoy playing the game and they enjoy playing with each other. Bowling Green is awfully good, especially on their home floor, and its seniors give them one of the top 1-2 punches in the league, but our guys didn't back down."
Northern Illinois would eventually cut the lead to eight, 70-62, on Peterson's final three, but 15-of-15 free throw shooting by the Falcons squashed any hope of a late rally. Over the last two games, NIU opponents (Miami and Bowling Green) were a combined 32-of-33 (.970) from the foul line. Northern Illinois was an impressive 7-of-9 (.778) at the line, but didn't get nearly the same number of opportunities because of NIU's need to foul towards the end of the game.
While Almanson and Reimold finished as the game's leading scorers, Bowling Green got an unexpected offensive lift from reserve forward Mawel Soler in the opening half to grab a 38-30 lead at the break. A junior college transfer from Coffeyville (KS) Community College, Soler scored eight consecutive points in only 1:02 of playing time to help the Falcons extend a 12-9 lead to 20-9. Soler opened his run with a three-pointer at 12:31, before tapping in a Fitch miss and converting on a three-point play at 11:29. Soler finished the half with 4-of-6 shooting from the floor and played an integral role in Bowling Green pushing their lead to 14 (30-16) at the 6:18 mark.
Hughes kept the Huskies tight, however, and responded with two of his 12 first-half points to cut into the BGSU lead, before Maestranzi converted on back-to-back treys, including a fast break triple at 4:20 to slice the BGSU bulge to 30-24 with 4:20 remaining. Two more Sims free throws cinched the lead to 30-26, but Bowling Green was able to push their lead back to eight on an Almanson hook just before the first half gun.
While Soler led BGSU with 10 first-half points, the Falcons also got great contributions from seniors Almanson (9 points) and Reimold (8 points) and junior Steven Wright (9 points). Again the Huskies were balanced in the first half, as Maestranzi (6), Peterson (5) and Paulsen (5) bolstered Northern Illinois' first-half scoring production.
After two tough road contests, Northern Illinois returns home to face the Ohio Bobcats on Wednesday (Jan. 12) at 7:05 p.m.
