Huger has a coaching tree. Have we ever had a coach with a coaching tree?

Yeah, the last assistant to get another HC job was probably Steve Merfeld and that was after the fact

That would be no tree for Dakich, Orr, and oh, one year tenures don't count.

I love this type of thing. Consistency on the staff is important but if we keep most and replace one a year you are getting new recruiting territories and fresh eyes. I trust that Huger will replace him with a strong coach. Was Rowe our top assistant?

Dennis Hopson coached the Kickin' Mules of Bedford (MI) HS for a year or so....does that count?

Ray Mccalum out at Detroit. I feel like his name has been tossed around here sometimes for the head job. Does he have ties?

He played and coached at Ball State. Led BSU to 2 MAC titles as a coach. I had thought about him as a possibility to fill our spot, but the other time he got fired (Houston), he was an assistant at Oklahoma and Indiana before getting another head coaching job.

He got fired from Detroit for going pretty much .500. I'd say if he's going back to the assistant route, he'd look bigger than the MAC, but who knows? He's also 55 years old and has a kid playing in the NBA. Maybe he takes this as a chance to hang it up?

But if he were interested in BG, I'd take him. He's got the experience and has worked the Great Lakes region for the bulk of his career.
