I was looking over EMU's notes the other day and notice something they did at EMU that was be really cool if we did it too at BG. I noticed that EMU recently played a game at Bowen Field House the other day as a "Throwback Game." For those of you not familiar with Bowen Field House, it's the old building EMU used to play in before they started playing at the new Convocation Center. Basically, it's kind of a dump - it's an old field house where they used to piece together a floor in the middle, pull out bleachers from the side walls, roll out portable bleachers behind the baskets and pull out a curtain to seal off the empty part of the facility. It was, however, a very good home court advantage for the Eagles.
Anyway, my point is this, how cool would it be if BG were to play one game a year, say - against one of the non-D-I schools we always get every season, over at the old Men's Gym which is now part of the Eppler Complex?! Seriously, if you think about it, it could be very cool to do it. I know they recently renovated the actual gym when I was a student (and they did a very nice job with it, by the way, from what it used to be). When I worked with the basketball team as a student at BG, we used to hold some of the Junior Falcons games over there. I don't remember there being any seating over there, but if we were to bring in portable bleachers and allow people to stand around parts of the court or up on the track - it would be just like those old game photos you see from in there before Anderson Arena was built. I think it would be awesome to do! We could pick one game, like I said, maybe one of our in-state D-II or D-III opponents and play in there. We could probably only get 500 or 1,000 people in there, but it would be packed and I really think it would be something that people would come out to see. I know I would be very interested in coming back to see a game there.
Here in the ACC, N.C. State also does a similar thing. Several years ago, they built a new arena (The RBC Center) which the NCSU basketball team shares with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes. But for one game a year, N.C. State plays back in old Reynolds Coliseum which is their old gym that they played in until about four years ago on campus. This year, N.C. State played Liberty there on December 11th. They usually pick a weaker team because they can't get the size of crowd they can get at the RBC Center. But some of the people come back for this game just to see a game played back in Reynolds Coliseum.
What do you all think?

Yes...you should throw that one back in the Goodwill hamper.... (picture an emoticon here)
I think we should do a real throwback. We can go back to the days when Naismith first invented the game. Play it outside, have everyone wear long pants and white dress shirts and we'll use a peach basket for a hoop.

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

Have you seen where ESPN has been having "Turn Back The Clock Games" They are using their ESPN Classic channel to broadcast live college basketball games and the schools are dubbing them as tbtc or disco night games.... pretty interesting concept when coupled with the men's gym suggestion.
My dad would always tell me when I would go to Junior Falcons in Eppler - "Harold Anderson would have a game with Blufton on a Wednesday then play St. John's in THE Madison Square Garden on the weekend. . . "
