Saw a tweet from John Wager: "Capital leads #Falcons 42-41 w/ 12:49 left 2H." Still won by 15 but yikes.

BG was stuck on 41 for a while, then they woke up. We got good minutes from Frye and Caldwell and Denny scored about 19 with good defense. Ali was in foul trouble, with 2 quick ones in each half. Rasheed did not play and appeared to be limping.

All in all, it was nice to see the new guys and it may be a long season.

Go Falcons!

Hoops were you at the game? According to live stats it looked nip and tuck until about 9 mins to go in game and then exploded. When you say may be a long season would that be like last year? Or just until the youngsters get their feet under their legs and good to go?

We have such a thin bench.

There is the boxscore.

Sheed didn't play and Malik played less then a walk on. I really wish we would have gotten a couple of final year bigs.

Any takes on the new guys from those who watched?

I thought Caldwell and Frye both looked very good, and will play a lot of minutes this year. Turner was just ok tonight, but definitely will help, and Uju looked like a solid backup to me. Hard to judge on one exhibition game where everyone got quite a few minutes.
Game was a bit ho hum for 30 minutes, but ability and effort took over for BG in the last 10 min.

I would love to hear a bit more detail about their individual games. Especially the 4 newbies.

If the Cubs can win the World Series, maybe this team can go to the Big Dance :P

Seriously, we struggled against a good shooting team. Zach and Ish's defense got us back into the game as their shooting fell off. As stated in this thread, #3 and #5 looked promising, Ali and Lilliard played well, Wiggins is no Richaun around the basket and he didn't improve his FT shooting, going 0-4 and he was our only "big" out there. Turner and Uju played, but it's too soon to tell how well they fit.

If Rasheed is out for any length of time, we're probably going to wish we had another big man....wait we ALWAYS wish that.

Ali's 4 fouls hampered his play and cut his minutes. Some of his fouls were kinda stupid, but he looked like he improved from last year even.

That's about all I can remember...

Turner looked lost out there at times, but I've heard that he might be the best of our new players, so I'll give him a pass in his first ever college game.

Caldwell and Frye didn't look nearly as tentative and seemed like they can make an impact right away.

Team didn't really shoot the ball well, but there were flashes of a good team, especially in the last 10 minutes when we took over the game.

No reason to go crazy yet. Buffalo beat Daemen in overtime, Ball State barely beat Indianapolis.

Exhibitions are for working the kinks out. And getting Worrell back should help with our inside game, but I think this is a team that's going to live or die on guard play anyway. Playing up tempo and pushing the ball up the floor.

I always figure our players/coaches take these exhibitions about as seriously as we do as fans, which is to say not at all. Clearly we didn't even bother to play for 30 minutes, then it was like a switch came on that said, "s**t we cannot lose to Capital!"

Ish, Caldwell, Lillard, and Alcegaire could all get to the rim at will when they tried to, which was mostly not at all until that final 10 minutes. Ish had a great start to the 2nd half before picking up his 3rd & 4th fouls in that same stretch...that hurt, but it did get Caldwell more action.

I thought Frye looked more like a HS kid playing against college kids than I've seen in awhile. He's got a baby face and just looks SMALL. Like I don't know what he's listed but probably cannot weigh much more than about 150# small. That said he did make a couple of hustle plays, and hit a couple of jumpers during our "on" time.

Caldwell looked like he could make some plays as well.

I thought Turner & UJU both looked completely overwhelmed and lost. I don't think either did a single thing that I said, "Ooh that was nice". And this was against a team that we had COMPLETELY outclassed athletically. Capital could shoot, but there wasn't an athlete on that roster.

Our defense, was ATROCIOUS. Especially at the perimeter. You could look at the box score and say maybe Capital just had a hot shooting night, but I think they had more contested shots in shootaround than they did in the 1st half last night. Again there were times we had the 4 newbies on the court together in that half, but they didn't guard anybody.

We're also in baaad shape inside if Worrell cannot come back healthy soon. I don't know what the stats would show but it felt like we got dominated on the glass. By a team with little size and zero athleticism. Wiggins looked more tentative than last year, IMO, and when he left the game we had Uju and Alcegaire playing inside and looked completely overmatched.

We definitely need(ed) another big, and that was WITH Worrell. Without him our front court is seriously hurting.

Tough to really draw any conclusions about the season from an exhibition where the newbies got so much PT. I cannot imagine Fox is going to play as much as he did last night either (and I think he was playing down low a bit too, and comically bad). I hope Denny can play better this year, but he always looks good when we go against these lesser tier teams, then he just cannot play against the better MAC teams. Hopefully as a senior it's different this year. Ish & Caldwell looked competent at PG, Lillard & Alcegaire will be fine on the wings. I think Wiggins can continue to improve, but he's going to have to stay out of foul trouble or we're hurting up front. All in all, and I say this every year after these things, just nice to hear the sneakers squeaking again.

Do we know how long Worrell is out for?

Also, I didnt watch the exhibition, what's up with Lilliard only getting 12 minutes?

'Sheed is hobbled. He had a reaction to a steroid injection in his feet! He said the first time it healed right up, but this time it did something different. He doesn't know or wasn't saying how long he'll be out.

(I had syn-disk or whatever in my knee....I'll just endure the pain :-)

Do you think that this is why they opened up another try out? We legitimately have 1 healthy big. 2 players over 6-6 on the roster that are healthy now.

I've had cortisone in my foot for plantar fasciitis. The shot itself is painful is hell. I hope this isn't the issue Worrell is having because that's the kind of nagging injury that can linger on and on for months. Or it can clear up pretty quickly...

Curious, what is the deal with Hulu? He came to BG as a highly touted athlete isn't seeing the court.
