I can't believe how awful our non-conf. schedule actually is. Worse than last year and I won't even post a link - it's that ridiculous. How ridiculous you ask? We're playing a single woman singer from New Zealand before we open our conference schedule. #growsomeballs hoopsters! No pun intended!

And if Bill Frack's family asked for his money back I wouldn't blame them!

For anyone that desired the link to the non-conference schedule article, here it is:
http://www.bgsufalcons.com/news/2017/8/ ... edule.aspx" target="_blank
And if anyone doesn't want to read the article and would instead like to save a click to see the list of opponents, here they are:
Nov. 2 – CAPITAL (Exhibition)
Nov. 10 – at Drexel
Nov. 13 – SOUTH DAKOTA
Nov. 18 – FLORIDA GULF COAST (Bill Frack Challenge)
Nov. 20 – LAKE ERIE COLLEGE (Campbell University MTE Opener)
Nov. 24-26 – at Campbell University MTE (Buies Creek, N.C.)
Nov. 29 – SAN JOSE STATE
Dec. 2 – at Norfolk State
Dec. 5 – EVANSVILLE
Dec. 9 – at Old Dominion
Dec. 21 – at Green Bay
Dec. 28 – LOURDES
I like getting FGCU at home. Dunk City should be an entertaining squad to host at the Stroh this season. The non-conference schedule as a whole leaves a bit to be desired, but I think just seeing the Falcons back on the hardwood will be enough to make me happy. Let's go win some ballgames, fellas.

I will not disagree that this schedule is lacking in marquee matchups at home. I will say that if the goal was to find games that would put us in a position to be competitive, and win games early with a young team I get it. The road games are against good competition and I think the hope is to grow this team and build for the future this year by building a competitive and winning mentality. Now I would love for them to bring in some better teams for my enjoyment, but I can see the other side as well. I am hoping the away games like Old Dominion, etc. are home and home so that next year we can start to see an upswing in the caliber of opponent. However, for this year, with this young group I just want to see them learn to win and win consistently. So if they chose those those teams in part because of that I get it. But, I do think the list could have used perhaps one more challenging game at home.

I'm not excited to see a big name school come in and run us. This team has tons of youth. I'd rather see them play well against bad competition and work their way up

This is Huger's third year. By Larranaga and Dackich's third year rhey were playing and beating Big 10 (&ranked) schools. Dakich was playing ranked teams his second year and winning against them in year 5. This program needs to get going this year!

The non-conference is exactly what you'd expect it to be anymore. Meh...I'm not surprised one bit. The most puzzling thing to me is, why in the world are we going to Norfolk, Virginia to play NSU, then one week later, going right back to Norfolk to play ODU??? These two schools are a whopping FOUR miles apart! That's a lot of travel to go back and forth from BG to Norfolk twice in a week's time. This should have been a combined trip where we go and play both (two games) on a Friday and Sunday or a Saturday and Monday. Without looking at their schedules I can only guess they had conflicts. It's just very odd to literally be going right back to nearly the exact same spot that far away to play again.
I don't even really care about the schedules much anymore. I just want to see us back to what we were in the late 90's and early 00's. I am cautiously optimistic this year's recruiting class is going to be the one to finally help us end the NCAA Tournament drought in the next couple years. Keeping them all here and improving them each year will be the key. This year I simply hope to see a winning team that's exciting to watch and one that has finally turned the corner. Huger's honeymoon is over. It's officially time to start producing. This is year three, there's no more excuses.

I don't remember the situation that Jim L came into, but when Dakich got here the program was a helluva lot better off than what Huger inherited. I don't think a quick turnaround (despite this being hoops where 1 major recruit can turn things around) was likely, or even possible, regardless of how good Huger was.
Much like when Clawson got here, the program was going to take a few years to just gain stability before you can start making traction forward.
That said, with this schedule, you better be winning 18+ games in your 3rd season. It certainly SOUNDS like he's recruiting well, but through the first couple classes we haven't seen anybody come in and really light it up right away. Frye looked good, Lillard has had moments, Caldwell has had moments, but nobody in the first 2 seasons has looked like a sure fire future All MAC type guy. We MUST see either one of these freshman come in right away and produce and/or some of the previous 2 classes start developing into that type of player.
If, at the end of the 3rd season, we're still winning 15 games or so and don't have any obvious All MAC caliber players then I think it's time to start thinking about moving on. I don't think we'd actually make any more until at LEAST after his 4th season, but we need to see progress. Last year there was really little to no progress. We cannot have another tire spinning season and convince me that we have the right staff here for us to return to what we want.

Larranaga took over a very bad program and the Falcons gave the number 24 ranked MSU Spartans their first loss in the history of the brand new Breslin Center in year 3 and then beat Kentucky in year 4 at Rupp.

Huger took over an absolute dumpster fire from Louis and that guy in the bar...
Larranaga's first three years were 15-14 with Weinert's guys, 12-16 and 12-16.
4th year...18-11
Huger is doing well enough in my book....

The guy in the bar took over the worst and had the team competing in year one. I want nothing more than Huger to succeed and we should expect to see and expect a noticeable improvement in year three by any coach worth the long term. I started calling for Orr's departure after year three because it was apparent there was no noticeable improvement in year three. I hope we see a different team in year three or it's time to find the next Dave Clawson or Chris Jan's without the misbehavior. BUT, like I said - I hope our alumni coach gives us real reason to have faith with a program that shows we are on the rise to MAC Championsship level within another year or two.
