Heard the team won fairly easily and the Koch kid may have been the best player on the floor. We probably won’t learn much from Capital this week but it will be nice to have basketball back. Things seem to be looking up.

Did anyone even know this existed. What the heck is up with the coverage of this team?

Aren't there some rules about these type of scrimmages? They don't get covered really because they don't "count".

But yeah, the coverage of this team is never really very good. We only get one beat writer who I really don't even care to read because he has zero credibility in my eyes. Plus he's also tasked with being the Blade's coverage for ALL BGSU athletics along with the Mud Hens, and Tigers.

Unfortunately that's the problem with being a mediocre mid-major athletics program; shoddy media coverage. And I think the reality is the program has been so bad for so long that the university is perfectly content staying "under the radar" rather than inviting more coverage of the product. It's a shame, because I'd read pretty much every word I could find (which isn't much) about the team.

It was a 'closed scrimmage' and NCAA prohibits teams and coaches from even talking about it.

The NCAA allows teams to participate in closed preseason scrimmages provided they're kept secret. That means no promotion, no specific discussion, nothing.

Fans can't watch, nor can parents. No media. No cheerleaders. (Can you imagine football doing something like this?) According to NCAA rules, only those "athletics department members necessary to conduct the scrimmage" can attend. No official score or stats can be kept, although participating teams can do so for their own use. Whatever that means. No postings on social media after the game.

So I guess we need to stop talking about it. It's only hearsay anyways since no one actually witnessed the scrimmage.

The lack of coverage is a bit mind boggling.
There is an SID
Then they have the Sentinnel, Blade and BG News.

They have 5 freshman and 7 new faces total. If you want to put people in seats you need to sell the program's growth. Freshman can do that pretty easily. They are hope. It's like a restaurant under new management.

I skipped the news about Koch. That is awesome. I wonder if he starts week 1? He seemed like the most ready for his role. Be big and rebound and scoring is extra. Any scoring he does will be a great add on.

Wagner of The Blade and Schmeltz of the Sentinel are clueless and the SID only chimes in from time to time. I would have more faith in getting our information from Dustin or Falconboy.

Beyond that, remember 'The Grind"? What a ridiculous show. People watched people just dancing.

I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to have a clear pulse on one team if you're spread so thin. I couldn't imagine having to be at a football game, then running over to the hockey game after the first period has ended then write an article about a basketball game I didn't even attend all on the same day on deadline. That's more of the Blade's fault than anything.

I also believe the athletic department is content on providing its own coverage and spreading a specific message through social media/its website than having tons of outside media creating a message of their own.

It seems their version of outside coverage is trying to make a viral video and have national media pick it up on social media.

Isn’t that the goal of every business, political party, government agency, church and sports organization? So what you’re really saying is the BGSU athletic Department IS doing something right

I think they do a good job overall. I can think of a couple programs in this conference that would probably welcome the amount of attention either of these guys give our program.

I didn't say it was wrong. Just not something I'm particularly interested in. I'd rather have the entire story than a well manicured PR version of events.
