BG 75 CMU 84

I haven't posted for about a month but this game pissed me off so I felt to let off some frustration. BG blew a 15 point second half lead, a 12 pt lead with 10:30 remaining.

BG built up its second half lead with Caldwell, Turner and Wiggins shooting very well. Turner and Wiggins barely played the 1st half so there should been no need to rest them in the 2nd half, yet Huger put in subs and took out both Wiggins and Turner for a break after both players were on a roll. AT that point the team lost focused, turn the ball over and couldn't make shots.

Make things worse, the team was only down 3 points and Huger had Koch and Wiggins on the bench with 4:41 remaining. He had Lillard and Fox (Fox had numerous dumb out of bounds passes and couldn't hit a shot). Wiggins re-entered with 64 seconds remaining.

Huger lost this game!! Plain and simple and I would love to hear his explanations on the 2nd had substitutions after we built a 15 pt lead.

I couldn’t agree more. That loss was absolutely on coaching. We lost at home to the celler dweller in the MAC. That’s plain embarrassing!

What we knew was they were going to honor the 1968 Tournament Team today. What we didn't know was they were also going to bring the great Louis Orr to coach the current team today!! What a surprise!!

First half I though Huger did extremely well getting Lillard, Wiggins and Turner out of the game with 2 fouls. He rode the hot hand of Koch. Played Cummings, Uju and Plowden very well and BG had a 3 point lead. Then BG scored 19 pts before the first media timeout. Built the lead to 15 with 12 min to go and still up 12 with 10 minutes and then the brain fart set in. What the hell happened. Why take out Wiggins and Turner!!! If you needed a small rest call a time out. Inexcusable collapse.

And we go from being in 3rd place all by ourself to a 5-way tie.

Once again, BG shows it has absolutely no home court advantage in basketball. How many home games is that this season alone that they should have won? At least three. How a coach can make those kinds of mistakes, especially when he knows he doesn't have a dominating team (or bench) is beyond mystifying. I had high hopes for Huger when he was hired; now I'm beginning to think that historic string of absences from the NCAA tournament is going to go on well into the future. I dearly hope I'm wrong.

Was anyone at the ceremony for the 68-69 team? I saw a very few pictures with no descriptions and the one that I saw with description had 3 players on it, 2 of whom are not listed in the stats for that year. I know Al Dixon passed away a few years ago and John Compton was id'd in the one picture I saw but would be interested in how many and who came back.

I was there, but unfortunately my memory is not that great, so I don't remember everyone who was there. They showed them one by one on the video board, & the P.A. announcer read a short bio, but they did not list their names on the board, so I did not hear who a few of them were. I'll start a list & maybe others can add to it.

Bill Fitch could not be in attendance, but recorded a video message that was played on the board. I heard Walt Piatkowski either just had or was about to have knee surgery, and could not make the trip.

Maybe FF1 can help us with this. It wasn't always clearly understood over P A by us either. Would have helped to see names up on screen. But I think they did a good job overall on those bios. Hard to think that most of these guys are in late 60s or early 70s. But a couple were using canes etc to get around.

The first 6 were members of the varsity team. Hairston & Abdullah (then known as Joe Henderson) were starters. Hill, Connally, and Walker, and were the top three scorers on the freshman team. Bob Conibear was Bill Fitch's assistant and Jim Lessig was the freshman coach. Jack Kagy was one of the managers. One of the grad assistants was also there but I'm drawing a blank on his name. And Ron Zwierlein was Freddie Falcon.

Thanks for the fill in .. Abdulla just didn't sound right to me, but this explains it. Surprised they didn't mention Dixon and Piatkowski,. These two were the ones I've remembered the most. I was at the last NCAA appearance, sure would like to see another while I'm still walking around.
