House that now snores

Several WMU folks have rightfully pointed out the lack of noise in AA Saturday.
Apparently "The House that Roars" is a thing of the past. Even when the Falcons made runs, the noise would quickly die when WMU rallied. I don't know if the roar would have made a difference Saturday but having watched games in AA for four decades, I think it would have been a big help. We seem to expect the team to rev us up -- it ought to work both ways. If you sit upstairs like I do, annoy the folks around you -- get off your butt, make some noise -- even if they just get p'od at yoiu, they're still making noise!

I know one thing that doesn't help..and that's the announcer announcing events that are coming up in the coming weeks right after a big time out when the band should be playing getting the place going. I wonder if Duke does this during time outs?

I think the cops coming over at halftime to keep the refs from getting harrassed at the TV table put a chill onthings too. They stuck around over there for a looong time.

i had to leave at the half but from what i understand after the fight the cops made it very clear that the students had to be calm and quiet! They made it very clear that they wern't going to put up with any crap, eventhough the fans didn't do anything it was all the players and refs that got out of control and what was the deal with they walking over to the student section after that??? what did that do?? shouldn't they have went to the scorers table?? I think they were looking for something to happen.

It looked like the BG cops handled the situation pretty well. I think they were just telling everyone in the front row to stay off the floor and watch their mouths in the second half. The students may have been told to avoid obscenities toward the officials/Western players, but they certainly weren't told to become mute for the entire second half. I'm sure they were not told, "No "BG" "SU" or "Let's Go Falcons!" chants during the second half. Hopefully, we can get some good student support next Saturday and no "F*** Toledo" chants.

I wasn't there for the 2nd half. My friend just said that they cops told them to take it easy and calm down. I for one am with you on the F*** Toledo chant, I hate it! We as students have to watch what we do on the floor. I don't want to lose the advantage that Anderson gives us.

In fairness, you had to show some security at that point in the game. Fans are too close to the floor, and emotions were high, and it would be too easy for things to get out of hand and have a situation that would be an absolute disaster.

In the first half, a BG cop pushed a few of us back. At this time there was no swearing, the ref just turned around and told us to step back and the cop came and enforced it. I looked down the whole front row and asked what about the other hundred people standing the same way down there. We weren't on the orange, weren't swearing or yelling obscenities, so what was the big deal? In the 2nd half they pushed us all back on the mat and anyone who crossed over it was to be thrown out. Because I have huge feet, my toes were sticking over at one point and I did not see this. An officer came over and said, "You need to step back. I'm just trying to do my job here." Of course I responded with, "I'm just doing my job, too" and he partially smiled and walked away.
There was no control over the crowd, coaches, players, etc. until after the fight before halftime. This was a game against Western Michigan. If it got this out of hand, I hate to see what toledo is going to be like.

With what happened between the Pistons and Pacers I think you will see a lot of erring on the side of caution and security no matter where you go.

I have to agree with the previous comments about the fans not yelling simple cheers like BG--SU and Let's Go Falcons. As a cheerleader I notice a huge difference from football and basketball fans. No matter where we are in the football stadium, myself and the other cheerleaders always yell BG and get the SU response. Basketball, its like pulling teeth to get a response. Where's the support?
A lot of people say we call the same cheers over and over again but that's because they are simple and intended for CROWD LEADING. We need help yelling out there!! The band is usually really supportive and yells with us, but we need the student section to do their job too!! Next week against Toledo, I think it's going to make a huge difference if everyone yells SU when we call BG!! Please limit the F**k Toledo cheers.........its not classy and makes us look bad!! Plus as cheerleaders, we obviously can't yell that one along with you!! Go Falcons!!

An excellent option, but I"m afraid that would get butchered in a heartbeat.

Ya know, I've never understood why anyone would yell F*$# UT, or any other team for that matter? Kinda like the whole "Overrated" chant....what purpose does it fulfill?
I would much rather see folks yelling FOR BGSU instead of against the opponent.
I can tell ya this...the Freaklings have been instructed to scream their heads off Saturday at both games. Make as much noise as ya want.

They do that in the house at times so here is their chance to let it all out.
Is it Saturday yet????
GO FALCONS! BEAT THE CARDINALS!

I think that AA will make up for last weeks performance, with a rousing performance against WM and Toledo.
With Freak in the crowd, there will be NO choice!

The House that Snores?????

Yikes that bad. We can't have that at all. What was with the cops anyway. The students if I remember correctly didn't budge when the fight broke out , so what was the fuss about anyway? :coo-coo: And what do the cops think telling our students to "pipe" down anyway? This is a freakin basketball game , where fans yell and scream for their team! What the heck. We were all just booing. Hey that happens at times when refs screw up for missing calls and such.
Yeah, I'd take that personally student crowd. You guys need to take the excitement up ten notches for UT game. :ugh:
GO BG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CRUSH CARDINALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
