There are usually big points in the game where something happens that eveybody remembers and says "that was the turning point". I think there is also seemingly unimportant plays that you often forget about that have just as big as an impact. There was one Saturday that no one has talked about so I will throw this out for discussion.
About a minute left in the game and we are down by five. Floyd drives in for the layup to cut the lead to three, a one-possession game. Lots of time, so just play good defense and we can get the ball back with enough time to tie the game with a three. But what happened? Floyd turns around and immediately fouls a guy on the in-bounds pass. Western was in the double bonus by this time so it was a two shot foul. Do you think Dakich told him to foul? Or was this just a mental mistake by Floyd not knowing the situation? Either way, I thought that was a huge mistake because we let WMU stretch the lead back to five and we never scored again.
Not saying that we would have won the game, but it is about putting the team in a situation to win/tie the game. Fouling in that situation basically ended the game. Just my opinion, wondering what others think.

According to Dan in the postgame show Floyd thought it was a 4 point game. He stated it was a huge mistake that you cannot make, the kind that cost you games. It likely didn't have an effect solely, but like you said it is the little things that add together.
I think the biggest thing that cost us the game was our failure to make our easy layups/dunks in the first 3:00 of the game. Sure we battled back after being down big, but had we not missed those shots perhaps we don't expend so much energy overcoming the lead?
The #1 reason we lost, however, is that they are a better team than us. Every time we hit a big shot they followed with 2 of their own to build a multiple possession lead again. I said to Grant after the game that I could easily see this turning into a nother KSU 01-02 again. We could win a lot of games this season and end up losing to WMU 3 times, they are just a touch better than us. I still hold out hope that we'll continue to improve. If Moon keeps playing like he did maybe we'll close that gap.

I'm glad that wasn't Coach Dakich calling that foul, because I was listening to the game and yelled at the computer "WHY"! The players on the floor have got to know the situation. That is something that I have seen a lot more of lately in a lot of games that I have watched, and coached. The players aren't sure what is the situation and make the wrong call. It really does cost alot of teams the game. I wonder how much time Coach works on situationals. I know we don't do it as much as we should. I'm sure he works on it more, and you just have to trust the players to know what is going on out there, and make the right decision.
