Interesting starting 5........Frye, Turner, Fields, Plowden & Wiggins.
Austin instead of Laster off the bench. leading 16-6

I am sitting court side at Cleveland State and the Falcons just went Falcons on me. After leading by 11 with 10+ minutes to play in first half, Falcons now down 37-26 at half. Vikings outscore BG 27-8 over last 10 minutes of first half.

This team is so frustrating to watch. Clearly they have more athletic talent than CSU but stupid turnovers and dumb shots have them down by 11 at half.

Wiggins can't shoot outside of a dunk and has improved little since he got to BG. Same thing with Lillard...same player as when he got to BG. Lillard seems even skinnier then when he was a freshman. How do you go through 4 years of college and not add some weight?

Turner and Frye are players but we have little else.

Fields is a freshman so he gets a pass. Not sure Austin is a D1 player. Plowden and Uju are basically the same player. Limited offensively and can't get their own shot.

Sierra, Kulackovskis, Mattos and Fields are freshman or first year players trying to find their way in a bad situation.

I have to believe it comes down to coaching. Team looks lost. CSU switched to a zone and Falcons looked like they didn't know what to do. Settled for a jacked-up 3 at the shot clock buzzer.

Unless the rest of the MAC is that horrible, I see us at .500 or worse on the year.

Louis Orr 2.0, just a faster pace of play. Another Chris Kingston special. Meanwhile, Jans beat New Mexico by 35 last night.

We run the offense and defense I run in my 35 and over league. Where is Laster?

It could have been worse. The Kingston crew could have given Huger a 10 year contract.

This game has been awful. Announcers even mentioned that csu had not played some at all until tonight but we make it look like Syracuse.

This is not a good Cleveland State team either. They're amidst a rebuild but there kicking our tail. Fwiw, they're 0-2 against the MAC coming into this game

Blown out by a 2-7 team

I thought this would be another mediocre 15-16 win season but they keep losing these games against their weak ooc schedule. There's no way this team is over .500 in league play.

I want to know what huger was smoking saying he thinks this is a special team. They cannot guard, cannot shoot. Both are somewhat necessary in this sport

We lose to CSU 82-64. That was a 2-7 CSU team coming in. They outscored BG 75-46 over the last 30 minutes of the game. BG coaches never made any adjustments.

Viking sophomore Tyree Appleby goes off for 37 points on BG guards. BG coaches never made any adjustments to try and slow him down.

This was not a good CSU team. I played against better teams at the Rec Center when I was a student at BG.

What a disaster when you have seniors and juniors who have been in your system for 3 and 4 years. They've never improved. Has to be coaching.

Oh it’s coaching. That’s why they were picked dead last in the league.

I was struggling mightily with ESPN+ for a while. Gave up and canceled. PLEASE don't waste your time subscribing.

I saw some of the 1st half, though. Got in shortly before we went up 16-6. We were still up like 20-13 or something when things went crappy. By the time I logged into live stats instead of trying to watch, we were down 10 with 40+ seconds in the half left.

I watch the switch. All they did was go to a zone. All you really need to do for that is overload one side of the court, swing the ball deep into the overload, then swing back faster than the defense to get a decent 3 point shot. We have enough 3 point shooters to do this. Wiggins down low, and any of Turner, Frye, Mattis, maaaaybe Lillard (except DAMN has he regressed over the years), allegedly Laster, and Plowden can hit those at a decent %.

But we couldn't do it. We never TRIED to do it. We looked at the zone, and made short little passes or handoffs - then looked at the zone some more. Then we would throw it in to Wiggins, but instead of going way over the top of the D for an alley-oop, we threw it low and got it picked off.

Twice.

Like, WTF guys? How did you get out of high school ball without having any idea how to deal with a zone?

I disagree with a lot of the negative opinions on here. To whit: Wiggins has gotten better, used to get in foul trouble all the time. Saw a game earlier this year where people complained to no end about him being soft and letting guys body him down low - while he was fouling out the other big men who tried to stop him from bodying them. The refs were calling it, so he wasn't committing it, and nobody here seemed to care that he outrebounded their top 2 rebounders combined because he kept them in foul trouble while staying on the court. HE has more endurance and stays out of foul trouble, rebounds at a better rate, too. Lillard is not smaller than he was a freshman, but he cannot shoot worth a damn anymore and it's sad. Plowden cannot create his own shot but if the ball is moving properly he can score fine, and he rebounds his position very well - viciously well fora guy his height.

But there is a negative take that I can no longer ignore or disagree with. Huger has to go. How the hell do you have this much talent on the team and have no WE*&FP*(W&$GT idea how to score on a zone?

Wiggins was plying very passively game one and two but then picked it up.

This is coaching. This is an above average MAC team if they new how to attack and play defense.

I haven't gotten to see much of this team, other than "highlights" but it seems to me that, aside from some (not great) bench coaching, the real issue with BG basketball under Huger is a lack of player development. Are we really seeing guys come into the program and take notable steps in getting better? I'd say no, but I say this not having seen them as much as many on here. I've tried to hold out hope Huger would magically transform into the coach this program needs...but it's just not going to happen.

With the resources this program has (on paper, anyway), it should be light years better than it is now.
