vs. Wright State (12/13)

Following the big victory over Buffalo to begin MAC play, our Falcons (4-1, 1-0 MAC) will head back to the non-conference slate for a big tilt with Wright State on Sunday, December 13th at 12:00pm. The game is to be broadcast on ESPN3/+.

WSU (1-1) has a 71-47 win over Miami and an 80-64 loss against Marshall, so I'm not sure what to expect from them this year. We would've known more, but their games with Illinois, Ohio, and NC A&T were canceled earlier in the schedule, so they haven't gotten to play as much. However, we do know that they have a tremendous program with a lot of recent success.

The Raiders have won the Horizon League regular season title in each of the past 2 seasons, and they won their conference tournament and made the NCAA tournament in 2018.

Their recent history:

19-20: 25-7
18-19: 21-13
17-18: 25-9
16-17: 20-12
15-16: 22-13

This one won't count for anything in the MAC, but it should be a nice test against a quality program. Let's get it done. Go Falcons - Beat Wright State!

Wright State is a very, very good team. Finke is a former four-star recruit and an offense-first 6'6" guard, and they have two *great* big men in Loudon Love (one of the best in the Horizon League) and Grant Basile. Jaylon Hall is a very skilled defender and will probably have the assignment of Justin Turner, and Trey Calvin is a Diggs-level sharpshooter. They played terribly against Marshall after only having 6 or 7 practices leading up to the season, but the demolishing of Miami was more like the Wright State that will play all season. I think this is one of the more well-rounded teams BG will play all year, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they match up.

*side-note* I grew up a few minutes from the Wright State basketball arena so I went to several games a year and still follow them, hence my knowledge of their roster, but very obviously would love to see BG dismantle them.

I got my undergrad degree from Wright State. GO FALCONS!

I looked them over pretty thoroughly. Loudon Love is the pre-season Horizon player of the year. Averaged 16 and 9 last year. 15 and 8 the year before. 11 and 11.5 in 2 games this year.

Currently 4th on the team in scoring. I think it was Calvin who is leading them at 16 a game with high volume, high efficiency 3's (aka: Diggs). BUT, he's 6' 0" - so we might actually be able to defend him effectively out there. it looks like most of his scoring happens from the perimeter, not from drives, which makes me hopeful we can contain him - cause WOW did we show an inability to contain drives v Buffalo.

Given BG's lack of size inside, this could be a problem.

Buffalo was by far the best Swingle has looked. He had a dunk, made a jump hook. Hopefully, he continues to progress.

It will take good games by Swingle and Washington to keep them from having their way inside. Love has the best touch of any big man BG will face this year, and Basile is just averaging 12ppg 6rpg in 17mpg as a backup. I'm much more worried about that than their guards.

Awful start. Wright State up 13-2, and we can't defend this big dude inside. We knew it would be a problem, and it is.

Loudon Love is the best player we have played all year. He is great. We are in trouble....we just don't have any size with the ability to guard him.

I mean, this is insane. They make everything, and we can't buy a bucket. Nothing we do is effective right now.

This is ugly.

10 minutes in, it's 31-11, Wright State.

He’s the best player we will play all year. I knew we wouldn’t have any way to control him. He’s quick and has a soft touch, which is kinda the opposite of BG’s size.

I get that they are good but when is the last time we have played this poorly? Anyone know what Swingles plus minus is this year? It has to be awful.
