I hadn’t seen this posted anywhere else yet.
BG is playing in the Fort Myers Tip-Off in November this year. The other teams in our little division are Milwaukee, Southern Utah, and Yale. Milwaukee actually just signed a top 5 player in the class nationally, Patrick Baldwin Jr., as his father is the coach there, so that would be an interesting match-up.
Ohio State, Cal, Seton Hall, and Florida play in the other division. Each division will play its own separate tournament.
The tournament we are participating in will be played November 23-24.

Re: Off-season Thread 2021
How are we going to find playing time for all of our talent? This is actually bothering me. I'm wondering if we're going to be handing out some redshirts.

Re: Off-season Thread 2021
Preston isn't returning to Ohio U, as he's staying in the NBA draft and signing with an agent.
That's a massive blow to them - and can be a real game-changer in the MAC.

They will still be the team to beat in the MAC. They return everyone else including BVP and Wilson, and remember, MAC POY candidate Jason Carter transferred back to Ohio from Xavier in the offseason. They will still be extremely good even without Preston. But yeah, with him, they’d have been scary good. I’d have put them up there with the likes of Kent State from 20 years ago and Buffalo from a few years ago had he returned with what they have coming back.
GO BG!!!
Re: Off-season Thread 2021
I also saw the other day, to no one’s surprise, Justin Turner will not take advantage of the extra year and will not be returning to BG. What a sad and disappointing end to his career here with how the season ended and what happened with him.
GO BG!!!

So you are backing off this early April statement you made.BGSU33 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 07, 2021 9:41 pmThey will still be the team to beat in the MAC. Jason Carter, who transferred from Ohio to Xavier a couple years ago, is transferring back to Ohio! Ohio is going to be untouchable in the MAC next year? Preston is a future NBA player and will be the MAC Player of the Year next season, BVP is back and Wilson announced he’s returning (and they’re both first team worthy), and now you add Jason Carter - a MAC Player of the Year candidate himself - back to the mix! And you also add in their bench. This team will be better than the Buffalo team from a couple years ago. The rest of the MAC has zero chance next season. None whatsoever. Our three-year window was slammed shut so it’s a mute point for BG anyway. But for BG and the rest of the MAC, it’s already over. Ohio will destroy the rest of the MAC and will own the conference. They’re going to be scary good.
GO BG!!!
Or does the rest of the league now have a 10% chance. I think I would have bet the field regardless.

Despite the best sales job OU's SID could muster....I would also have bet the field.
Always bet the field...ok..99% of the time, bet the field

It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.
Re: Off-season Thread 2021
With Preston they would have been an overwhelming favorite, but weird things happen in the MAC.
Without Preston they're still going to be very, very good, but I don't think they'll be a runaway champion. They could still win the conference, and will likely be the preseason favorites, but they relied HEAVILY on Preston last year. You don't just don't replace an NBA draftable player who was also your primary ballhandler, scorer, and facilitator. Maybe they have a good replacement ready, but the likelihood of it being anybody close to Preston's ability in that role is nil.
Preston was their guy. EVERYTHING ran through him and was predicated on him. Not saying they can't change it up and be ok, but that's not simple to replace in the MAC.

BG is playing at Ohio State on Monday, November 15.
Our first MBB matchup with the Buckeyes since 2008 - should be a fun one. Exciting to think about the Plowden vs. Liddell battle down low.
