Prior to the pandemic my [now 6 year old] son has not missed more than a couple games a year. He's been to Cavs games as well as the MAC Championship game at the Q. We're perhaps starting a little early with our son, but he made it through the football game we went to as long as he had trucks to play with and a snack. We won't be at the game tonight (prior commitments), but we'll be at the next game on the 12th. He usually hits the bed at around 8ish, so we may be having to leave partway through, but I'm sure he'll enjoy the action, the music, and, his favorite, the popcorn. We have never left games early, that's always been my rule. One thing that is really nice is how the concourse wraps all the way around, in year's past we'd go up and take a walk around the concourse, and other than the south side, you can still see the game from the other 75% of that concourse.
Since he's been attending games since he was in his baby carrier he's usually been mostly well behaved. The 3year old age season was probably the roughest as he'd get antsy and wasn't yet into paying attention. 2 years ago, at 4, he was far more into the games and the ancillary stuff. Biggest fits we have to deal with is when the cheerleaders choose somebody else for the free pizzas!
I am interested to see how this year goes, we haven't been to a basketball game since the last BG home game before COVID.
For the weeknight games we usually take his PJs so we can change into them before leaving. That way if he falls asleep on the way home it's just straight into bed. Being in Kindergarten now we weren't sure about the tickets...it's typically after 9:30 by the time we make it home. In the end we decided to get our tickets and deal with him being away past bedtime on game nights. He had a say in it and said he absolutely wanted to go back, and he's excited to go back to the arena tonight. I'm hoping this year goes well, but we shall see.

Man do I miss the days of Anderson Arena. I was fortunate to be in school when BG had a really good stretch of teams. Four straight winning seasons, two of the best players in school history (Antonio Daniels and Anthony Stacey), an NBA lottery pick, a MAC regular season championship, wins over Ohio State, Purdue, Mississippi State and Nebraska, and many outstanding crowds in Anderson Arena. That place used to rock! I don't miss the blasting hot and crowded bathrooms and the concessions area at the Stroh is a million times better, but there are so many things I feel BG dropped the ball on with the Stroh compared to what they couldn't carry over for Anderson Arena. Funny enough, as much as I loved Anderson Arena, I was very excited about the Stroh Center, because BG really did need a new venue. However, I was very disappointed with my first visit to the Stroh Center. I admit, I had a ton of personal experiences from a few hundred arenas across the country to compare it to, which is something many people can't say. So I really put it up against a lot of comparisons. It just feel short in so many areas. I'm not saying it's a bad place, it's just, well, not nearly as good as it could have been. And over the past decade, that opinion hasn't changed, it's only been more solidified. It just makes me miss the old barn that much more. Some great memories were made in Anderson Arena.
