Ohio is looking every bit as good, if not better, than they were last year even without Jason Preston when they won the MAC and beat defending champion Virginia in the NCAA Tournament, and that's scary. Mark Sears has been killing it by stepping in for Preston when he left for the NBA, and Dwight Wilson hasn't even play for them yet this year (recovering from surgery). But Xavier transfer Jason Carter (who transferred back to OU) has picked up that slack and then some and is way more versatile. BVP is still solid as ever, and Jeff Boals is coaching his butt off as usual. Ohio is the model program of the MAC (see their postseason excellence) and BG isn't anywhere near the same level. Not even close. I'd give my left nut to have just one of the 7 MAC Tournament titles they have or one of the several NCAA Tournament wins the have had in the last decade. Now BG is looking 0-3 in the MAC dead in the face unless we get a weaker foe added this weekend before we go to Athens. And remember, only the top 8 teams in the MAC will go to Cleveland the year again. This team had better get this turned around now, or they will be on path to not even participate in the MAC Tournament this year, which would be even more pathetic than the fact they've never even won a MAC Tournament anyway. Man that gets my blood boiling every time I try and comprehend that fact...

Huger had a two year window to win the MAC. He had Justin Turner and was picked to win it both years. Buffalo lost its coach, Boals had to turn over an entire roster, and the MAC West was in the process of firing most of its coaches. The Covid year BG blew the regular season championship and was an underdog in the quarterfinals. Last year was just a total underachieving season that ended with Turner getting hurt in a game that meant nothing toward seeding prior to the MAC Tournament. The window is closed and it’s pretty obvious. But Bowling Green will be Bowling Green and never ever self evaluate properly, and allow Huger to rot around through the insane contract.

It’s really too bad Fordham didn’t actually try to hire him like his agent tried to make seem would happen. It could have saved 5 years. Only at Bowling Green do fans celebrate a coach picked to win the MAC, who finished 6th, and who has never won anything, announcing he is not leaving. It explains 60 years better than anything.
