He rolled his right one today on an out of control play. From the camera angle, I am not actually sure he even got fouled. He was on crutches and in a boot later, but was in high spirits and not grimacing. I would expect it to not be all that serious. But it raises some questions for me.
1. Is this the same ankle he sprained earlier that kept coming back?
2. If it is - should we just sit him for a month minimum, maybe the season, and let him get it strong and adjust his mechanics a bit (like Steph did with learning to simply fall safely instead of always trying to tough out every move early in his NBA career)?
3. Plowden and Reece and O'neal score pretty consistently. One or the other of Turner and Diggs generally shows up, too. Curtis has shown strong flashes that are getting more common each week. Gordon and Mills closed out this game, hitting free throws and playing defense. We know Fulcher can play defense (and rebound like a big). So, will we maybe be better off because our guard defense will be better with Gordon, Mills and Fulcher splitting Metheny's minutes between them?
4. Should we just set a darn rotation already?
5. Would you also leave Metheny and Young out of it, and Kula and O'neal get used situationally to spell Reece depending on matchup and need. Leaving us with 4 rotation guards. 4 rotation front court players. And 2 spare front court who get used depending on matchup. Vs the 11+ all getting minutes every game we have now. We need to do something to get some actual continuity instead of trying to invent it during the game every game.
Metheny's ankles
Re: Metheny's ankles
Metheny seems to be a great kid but he doesn’t have the skills to play D1, at least not yet. Could he get there? Maybe. My wife asked me tonight “why is he always so lost on defense”? He is completely lost defensively and has lost all confidence in his shot. I hope he finds his way but right now we are so much better when he’s not playing.
