vs. Akron (1/20)

Post by mbenecke »

Following the win on Tuesday night in DeKalb, our Falcons (9-8) will return home for a rescheduled game with the Akron Zips (10-5) on Thursday, January 20. The game will begin at 7:00pm, and it’ll be available for broadcast on ESPN3.

Go Falcons! Beat Akron!

BG has lost 31 of the last 36 games to Akron....that's mind boggling! To say Akron has been a thorn in the side of BG would be a major understatement. On paper, this is a game I'd say BG should win. But when you get beat that many times by the same team, you know nothing is ever going to be easy. We need this win badly.

This ain't your father's Akron team coming into the Stroh tonight. They are nowhere near as good as their record indicates. Very winnable game tonight and we match up well against them, in the sense that they dont have a dominant PG and Plowden should be able to shut down their best offensive player, Ali Ali.

I tried watching the 2ne half of their game vs a bad WMU team on Tuesday and legit fell asleep. Did read that they needed an 11-0 run late in the game to eek out a 1 point win at home vs the Broncos.

Etim, Metheny, Young, Fields, and Watson all in street clothes during warmups.

BG leads 13-9 at the first media timeout.

Shoutout to the maskless Akron dad sitting behind their bench for screaming and stomping his feet when the shot clock stopped working. Really good stuff from a quality guy.

11:03 left in the first half, Akron now leads 24-18.

We aren’t guarding anyone so far.

7:44 to play in the first half, Akron leads 27-24.

I wish we would just go over screens when defending. We go under and it leads to a wide open look every time.

Akron leads 46-34 at halftime.

About what I expected. Lots of turnovers, lopsided fouls, and not guarding anyone.

Also not doing anything to create offense just trying to play hero ball.

In short, we suck.

Fulcher is such a mess. I don’t get the love for that guy. Out of control and not a smart basketball player.

I like what Matiss brings the team. I hope he’s back next year

That was a terrible half of basketball we could have used Metheny for sure. Need a floor general.

No, this still looks just like the same Akron that BG is used to seeing over the past 36 meetings.

I honestly don't think we should be considered the favorite over almost anybody right now. Coach has done nothing to get rotations and roles set. There is far too much hero ball. Far too little defense.

The only reason I am watching at all is to see how the guys develop and grow as individuals - especially Plowden. There is no point at all in watching this team.
