vs. Kent State (1/29)

Post by mbenecke »

On Saturday, January 29, our Falcons (11-9, 4-5 MAC) will once again be inside the Stroh Center to take on the Kent State Golden Flashes (10-9, 5-4 MAC). This game will begin at 5:00pm, and it's slated to be streamable through ESPN3. The winner of this game will be in 5th place in the MAC standings.

Kent’s resume is honestly all over the place - very up and down. They have losses to teams like Northern Illinois and Central Michigan, but they also own wins over Akron and Toledo. So, their ceiling is pretty high, and this is going to be a tough game for us when determining where we stand in the league’s mid-level hierarchy.

This is a really important game for BG to keep fighting for a spot in the MAC tournament, so it's imperative we protect our home floor here. Kenpom has BG ranked 218, while Kent State is ranked 188, so this would definitely be a strong win for the team this year.

Go Falcons! Beat Kent State!

Kent is one of two teams in the country to lose two games when favored by 14+ points. The other is Alabama

With 6:03 to play, Kent leads 72-66.

BG was up 65-61, and then Kent went on a huge run in the last 2 minutes. Huger finally called a timeout.

Under 4, Kent State leads 76-74.

Myron Gordon just hit 2 free throws, came back and hit a three in rhythm, and drew a charge.

Love the way this kid plays. When he’s on, he’s one of our best players.

4 point game, less than 2 minutes to go… absolutely no emotion from the student section. No noise, nobody standing.

Embarrassing, man. This student group should care more than this. We have a gorgeous building and there is no atmosphere whatsoever in what’s essentially a must-win game.

FINAL: Kent State 91, BGSU 83

Just consistently never good enough defensively in any game. And now we’re 4-6 in the MAC, with a ton of tough games left on the schedule.

Another Saturday, another Bob Moosbrugger embarrassment. Football season is right around the corner. It’s just too bad Kit Hughes won’t be around to see the programs he destroyed further fail.

Daeqwon Plowden had 27 points with 15 minutes to go. He touched the ball THREE times the rest of the game. THREE TIMES. T. H. R. E. E... Three. Not three shots. Three TOUCHES.

Meanwhile Kent kept feeding their stud and he took over the game.

Plowden should have had 40 tonight. This should have been his defining moment. Kett did nothing special besides double teaming him the one time he touched it in the post, and he kicked it out for an open three. We could have done that all day. Should have been Daeqwons day. Michael Huger took that away from him.

Absolutely inexcusable.

13 to go in the game.
Thoughts so far and going forward.
I love Matiss. He is limited but just does so many little things right the entire team seems to run better with him there.
Didn't a bunch of us want Sincere Carry. If I remember correctly he committed to like West Liberty and then went to Duquesne.
Truly Margarita's are the best Seltzers. Finished the last one.
Blackberry is the best Whiteclaw.
We are hanging and could win but still things seem a bit off.
The Blackberry whiteclaw is in the garage fridge and I just discovered it's frozen. Legit didn't know that could happen
I love players on this team-Joe Reece-Turner-Matiss-Plowden. Remember that year when we had like 1 player over 6-6. That was terrible. I hope Matiss returns.
I wonder if the light ever comes on for Fulcher. I feel like he just needs to go to like a quiet retreat for like a week and then he'd return and be legit an NBA level player. He seems like the classic guy who things he has it and never realizes he is mostly out of control.
Why was Elsasser playing?
Plowden deserves a G league chance. Length, athleticism and can shoot 3's. I assume he actually makes the league. HE will be a very good guy when he doesn't have to be the guy. He will likely be what Turner is for us now.
Oddly the pineapple white claw in the same batch was not frozen. Shrug emoji.
74-69. This team is terrible on D and at getting easy shots. I would bet we lose.
Woznicki just said "Another chance for Kent to quiet the crowd"...LOL
There has to be a way to play Reece and Matiss together.
81-76. I believe we lose.
I hate this coaching staff.

Its truly heartbreaking for these players and the Frack money what this coaching staff is. I hope they find a way to buy them out.

I think a new AD needs to be brought in first. I’d like them get that position taken care of and then make some better hires.

It was fitting that the major donors were treated to an 0 for the day. It's time for Moose to have his office moved to the Rec Center and get someone with a clue. The Kingston stink is gone. Toledo owns BG in all the major sports, clean house and find competence.
