His teams seem to lack any semblance of actual coaching...

It’s clear he’s in over his head as a tactical coach, which a head coach needs to be. He seemed to lose the team this year and clearly was unprepared for the playing styles that he recruited, which is obviously pretty awful. There are some great potential fits for this program that could come in and make an impact right away. It’s clear that Huger is not worth the long term investment.

On a serious note it’s all about hope. And he creates none.
His lineups never make sense
His offense seems non existent
His teams ALWAYS Peter out in the MAC season
Players don’t develop
Players don’t seem to have fun
He hasn’t boosted attendance in anyway
I have less and less interest in even taking time at 9pm after the kids go to bed to watch to see who won
Players seem to win in spite of him

This and he’s a low energy guy. His teams reflect his demeanor. He is very comfortable leaning on a scorers table and losing. He doesn’t have the fire.

The case for Michael Huger to go is the direction of the program:
2019-20: 21–10, 2nd place in the MAC
2020–21: 14–12, 5th place in the MAC
2021–22: 13–18, 9th place in the MAC
One disappointing season is easy to look past. But two in a row is worrisome. As I believe Hammb has said: With the higher salary we pay for basketball coaching should come higher expectations.

Take out all the d2 teams in those win totals.

The records without non-D1 opponents would be:
20-10
12-12
11-18

To me the case is open and shut. The points are things we've all been making on here for years.
Insistence on scheduling an AWFUL OOC Schedule to artificially inflate the overall record.
Under .500 MAC record.
7 years in with that losing MAC record, more first round exits in the MAC tourney than "runs"
MAC record in years without Justin Turner is beyond awful. Like, worst coach in NCAA basketball bad.
Only 1 year in 7 where you could say the team actually played up to or beyond expectations.
Multiple years of not even using all his scholarships, multiple times just giving scholarship to unworthy walkon...
On court Xs & Os have been abysmal every single year he's been here, whether we were winning or not the actual basketball product has always been terrible.
Roster construction has generally been really bad. Prior to all the transfers this year we've always had super tiny guards then cry when they cannot guard anybody. We've mostly always been insistent on playing 1980s style true centers, even when they clearly didn't belong on the court.
Overall, it all boils down to one thing: He is (I think) the 3rd highest coach in the MAC. In 7 years he's not been able to break through for a MAC title, nor has he moved us to being consistently good/in contention for the MAC title. With what we are paying him, and the recruiting/travel budget he has we should be perennially a top 4 MAC team knocking on the NCAA door in most seasons. Instead we're still middle of the MAC spinning our wheels.

This might get a lot of blowback because he's somewhat of a divisive figure because of personality as a screamer, but what would we think of Tom Crean as a coach? He and Georgia are separating when the SEC tournament is done.
87-89: Alma assistant
89-90: Michigan State GA
90-94: Western Kentucky assistant
94-95: Pitt assistant
95-99: Michigan State assistant
99-08: Marquette HC
08-17: Indiana HC
18-22: Georgia HC
-403-305 record overall.
-Took Marquette to the Final Four in 2003 when they were still C-USA.
-11 NCAA tournament wins.
-3 conference titles.
-4 "coach of the year" awards across multiple conferences.
-Has been a coach for USA basketball teams before.
-Georgia didn't go super well for him, but most didn't expect him to have much success coaching out of his element in the south. He did have the #1 pick in the NBA draft one year at UGA, though.
55 years old from Mount Pleasant, MI. Married to Joani Harbaugh, daughter of BG legend Jack Harbaugh and sibling to Baltimore Ravens HC John Harbaugh and Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh..
If we were to go the fired/retread route, is this the type of resume we would be looking for?

I’d take Tom Crean in a heartbeat. Not sure he’d have interest in BG.

I'd Crean in my shorts if that happened.

Generally not a fan of re-treads but I'd definitely take Crean in a heartbeat. His experience at Marquette should be useful to working at BG, although even they weren't close to the history of meh that BGSU has had. You bring in a name like that and you're getting an instant credibility and ticket sale boost the second you do it.
Problem is gonna be why would he want to come here? The Harbaugh connections are fine, I guess, but in reality look at his salary history. Crean was north of $2m/yr way back when he was at Marquette (at least in the Big East days). Obviously he's been well higher than that at IU/UGA. Even if we bumped our pay up from Huger's pay, I doubt seriously he's going to take a $500-$600k/yr gig (which could make him the highest paid coach in the MAC).
I'd be fine making him the highest paid coach in the conference, we have the best budget in the conference. I just think that's likely shooting too high for us. I'd renew my tickets the day they announced it though.
Worth mentioning that UGA is trying to fire him with cause for a supposed altercation with assistants...dunno how that plays out, but it's not nothing...

20 win seasons are empty with our strength of schedule every year being terrible. I'm not going to look them up but they're consistently low (254 this year). Besides a giant comeback against Cincinnati thanks to missed free throws and beating ranked Buffalo what quality wins has huger had? 2 great wins in 7 years.
I would be thrilled with archie Miller, a top mid major assistant coach, or a successful coach at a small d1 school. We have enough money where we don't need to get a d2 coach. Miller has had success in Ohio before which is a big plus and would understand what it takes to win at this level
